Is there someone in your life that you are so in sync with that no matter where you are, together or apart, you are still on the same wave length?
Growing up, my best friend Heather and I were basically the same person.
We had the same personality, the same taste in EVERYTHING so much so that even when she moved 2,000 miles away (to Florida) we still somehow picked out and bought the exact same comforter for our beds, two separate times from two separate stores in separate states without discussing it first.
We were just so alike in our thinking and still are, all these years and miles apart later.
This picture was taken a few months ago when I was in Florida.
Just the other day, Heather posted on facebook asking for help in discovering some new smoothie recipes.
She was in luck, as I told her in the comments, because at the same moment that she was asking the question, I was literally in the midst of putting together a smoothie collection for us today!
As you know, I have suddenly found myself making a lot of smoothies but I am totally clueless as to what I am doing.
I simply throw some stuff in the blender and hope for the best which means I am in no position to share any form of how-to since there is no recipe to my madness.
I am a self-proclaimed expert in many things (dessert, shopping, hockey, makeup, keeping calm, Hello Kitty and Lisa Frank stickers) but smoothies? Not just yet.
It feels wrong though to keep eating (not drinking since I use a spoon) smoothies without offering you some sort of recipe so I did the right thing and gathered a whole bunch of awesome recipes for us from people who know what they are doing!
Let’s start with a collection from my pal, Amanda.
I was about to list you a few of her smoothies (including her latest Black Forest smoothie!) but then I clicked on her smoothies and drinks page and got all excited by the abundance of awesome combinations.
So instead, I am sharing with you the direct link to her list of 16 SMOOTHIE RECIPES.
That’s right, 16 smoothies <— which one do we make first?!
And if that’s not enough for you, here are a few more:

Are you still super close with your best friend(s) from your childhood?
Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe to share with us? Please leave the link in the comments!
How many frozen bananas are currently in your freezer?
Unfortunately, both myself and my childhood best friend have moved around so much, and now we have a solid tradition of phone tag. But we are at least still in touch!
Heather moved to Florida when we were 15. It’s amazing to me that we stayed as close as we did before the internet and cell phones existed!
Love this, since I’m someone who needs a whole lot of smoothie help. That’s so cool that you’re still great friends with Heather! I wish I had more connections from way back.
I need smoothie help too since I really just throw things into the blender without a plan of attack!
I drink smoothies only to get some greens down into this bod. I have a hard time eating raw veggies, but when the spinach and kale is blended, it’s easier to digest. I don’t like getting full off a smoothie either because I like eating my calories. So all I do is blend half orange juice and half water with a handful of frozen blueberries and a couple cups of frozen kale or spinach (I buy the Costco bags in the veggie section and just throw the bags into the freezer).
I like to chew my calories too! And totally agree on the veggies being easier to digest when blended – I am noticing the same thing.
I’m not close with my friends from growing up anymore sadly, but I’m hoping to bring back a few of those friendships now that some of them moved down to DC. I did it to myself when I moved away after high school graduation and I don’t regret it at all, but it did make it hard to hang on to those childhood best friends. My favorite smoothie- FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE. Aka the furthest from healthy a smoothie can get, but oh man I’m craving one now and I can’t find anywhere that sells them here.
Okay so what you are telling me is that we need to meet up at Serendipity next time you are in the city 🙂
Aw thanks for including my smoothie. It feels strange to me to even have a smoothie recipe since I’ve always been the toss everything in the blender and go type gal. Even when Amanda got me hooked on the chocolate ones, I didn’t realize measure those either (and I snuck in peanut butter and some other sundry items:) ) until someone asked me for a recipe on my FB page one day. And now you’re on the smoothie train. It’s nice to have you aboard. It’s amazing how life shakes out sometime.
That’s me – throw it all in and blend! I am hoping to actually measure and try all of these recipes!
I always have a stash of frozen bananas, but I go in phases with smoothies. Some weeks that is all I want, and then I can go weeks at a time without wanting any.
A frozen banana stash is super important! I like having them to quickly make banana ice cream.
You had me at Peanut Butter & Chocolate! 😉
HA! A winning combination 🙂
I love smoothies, but I rarely make them because my toddler is scared of the blender. Seriously. I’m trying to slowly get him more used to it. Poor little guy.
I’m still very close with some of my best childhood friends. I feel like they know me the best in the world, because we grew up together.
I bet my son would have been afraid too – it’s really really loud!
Thanks for all the love, lady! You know how much I adore my smoothies… as is evidenced by the fact that I probably have more frozen bananas than I do normal ones 😆 But smoothies are just such a godsend since they’re amazing at knocking out both hunger and thirst, and they satisfy my cravings for sweet things too. Love, love.
Definitely going to agree on the thirst thing – super satisfying in that department.
