Thinking-Out-Loud

So like, I know Taylor Swift is in a major conflict right now with Kim and Kanye but I don’t want any part of that. I love my Kardashians and lately I am obsessed with listening to a select group of Taylor Swift’s songs on repeat during my runs so I am not taking any sides and will be staying out of their war.

  1. Wildest Dreams
  2. Out of Style
  3. Out of the Woods
  4. You Belong With Me

Not your typical running music I suppose but mentally these songs have been making me happy each morning when I run for the last several weeks.

I have also been on repeat a bit with Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me. I think this happened last year too, let me check for the post reference…..here it is. Ah yes, I remember that Thinking Out Loud post well, it was the day I said it’s okay to eat cake for lunch sometimes. And I still agree obviously since I had cake for lunch last weekend.

I really liked my lunch yesterday, that’s for sure. I stopped at Red Mango to grab a parfait and ate it outside while on a few work calls.

I didn’t mind taking work calls while eating my parfait because these work calls were actually with my bestest friend Heather who lives down in Florida. I think I told you that we both ended up working in the event industry (she’s a really big deal down in South Florida) and yesterday she was hosting an event for us (us as in AllSeated) and we were going over a few details prior to the start of the luncheon.

It’s always nice when Heather and my other good pal Dina (who lives here in NY but was down in Florida for the event!) send me photos from these events to say hi because they miss me.

Heather and Dina

The good news is that we will all be together at my son’s Bar Mitzvah because Heather is definitely flying up for the occasion! I am so super happy you have no idea.

Anyway.

My son requested real snacks (that’s how he phrased it, as if the food I buy isn’t real and the processed sh*t he likes is authentic from nature) to have in the house for this week before he leaves for camp.

I agreed to take him to Target and I also agreed to keep my mouth shut regarding his selections.

I will admit that I did have to chime in when he wanted microwave popcorn. I sort of googled and pulled up an article right there in the aisle, reciting how the microwave popcorn bags can cause cancer but other than that, I was quiet.

Now, if it were me heading into Target on a mission for crap snacks (sorry, real snacks as my son says), you would find me in the snack cake and cookie aisle.

I would get a package of Oreo’s to pile into a cup of milk to eat all mashed up. I would grab an Entenmann’s chocolate cake and eat it ever so carefully straight from the box, making rows with my fork (not that I have a history of this or anything) and would have selected Ring Ding’s, Chips Ahoy (the original ones) and a pound of M&M’s for good measure.

I would not have picked Lay’s Cheddar, Bacon Mac & Cheese potato chips. That’s for sure. The smell of these chips alone could kill me.

I must share this link I saw earlier this week of the Top 10 Favorite Barbie Playsets which melted my little girl heart.

I had every Barbie play set listed in the article (I loved that Dream House!) but I don’t believe I had the horse. My Barbie dolls didn’t ride horses, they preferred the Corvette Convertibles.

Time for me to eat and run! By the way, I switched from MapMyRun this week to Run Keeper and so far, I am much happier. Run Keeper is tracking the distance accurately rather than coming up short like MapMyRun has been for weeks. More on this in my recap on Sunday.

Don’t forget to check out what everyone else thinking about today!

If you were released into the grocery store to pick a bunch of yummy not so healthy snacks, which would you choose?

What songs do you have on repeat lately during your workouts?

Did you love Barbie when you were younger?

Hi! I'm Meredith. Join me while I run and cook my way through single motherhood. It is always an adventure trying to teach my 12 year old son the benefits of an active lifestyle combined with healthy eating while of course, still leaving room for dessert.

  1. I am with you- if I am going to buy processed snacks they are going to be on the sweeter side. I think I would actually rather go with candy. When it comes to things like cookies I think I would pass on the packaged stuff because I prefer making my own so much more. I definitely don’t like chips and stuff like that!

  2. My kids have listened to so much TS it’s hard for me to do it anymore, even though I like a lot of her songs. And that Celine Dion is such a classic! Funny that the only one of my kids obsessed with barbie play sets was Drew! He’s moved on to music and drawing though for the most part 🙂

  3. I would go for candy or cereal if I had to pick some junk food. Peanut butter M&Ms are especially my weakness if I do eat junk food.
Taylor Swift music is my favorite if I’m on the treadmill and not listening to a podcast. Outside, I run without anything playing.

  4. I’m sorry, those chips sound pretty gross. I think if I went on a junk snack binge, I’d be a mix of you both – Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion (the only good kind of chips!) Sour Patch watermelons, definitely Chips Ahoy, a bag of skittles… maybe a bag of hint of lime Tostitos….. damn it, this bag of cashews I have hidden for ‘snacks’ is not going to cut it!

  5. I had NO idea about the microwaved popcorn thing! I don’t eat much of it anyway (I have a popcorn phobia, like omg could I get any weirder) but Andrew’s kids eat it like 3 times per week since they were old enough to eat it. RUH ROH. I better switch that up STAT.

  6. Ooh, I like microwave popcorn, but now I’m not so sure. O_O If I went to the store to get snacks, I would definitely go for the cookies and cake aisle. I love Oreos, Nutter Butters, and Pepperidge Farm Cookies. You were a sweet mom to go and help him get the snacks! 🙂 I’m just not a salty foods person, but I bet some of my family members would go more for the chips. I do like chips, but if I was buying it, I would definitely do sweet.

Hmmm…. I was probably more of the model horse gal than a Barbie gal. We had more baby dolls than Barbies when I was growing up. I loved my model horses though.

  7. Hehe well I’m slightly embarrassed to say I buy these “not so healthy” snacks during every trip to the store so this is just an average day for me! :p

I like original Goldfish, ranch pretzel bites and pita chips. I’m definitely a salty snacker!

  8. HAHAHH Your son’s snacks! those chips sound disgusting. I’d go with your selection too. I do eat microwave popcorn because I’m too lazy to make my own bag. I do eat a lot of processed snacks (goldfish, cheezits, oreos, chips ahoy etc.) because my company keeps them in stock at all times, but I don’t generallybuy them for myself. Mostly because I’ll eat the whole package in one sitting if i’m not paying attention haha

  9. When I pick up junk food, it’s usually Oreos, some of sugary cereal (like Corn Pops or Frosted Flakes), or pretzels. I try to buy small packages, though, because I get sick one thing and then want the newest flavor, so before I know it, I have like 5 boxes of opened cereal or Oreos that I don’t know what to do with. I do not like potato chips, and I understand what you’re saying–those weird flavors smell awful (the smell of Cool Ranch Doritos always kind of made me sick).

Thanks for the Barbie link–I was definitely a Barbie girl, and I had several of those things they showed.

  10. I’m with you on the Oreos! I don’t love a tonne of store-bought cookies in general, but Oreos are my favourite for sure. I actually bought a package not too long ago to test out a recipe, aaaand ended up eating them all with no recipe made. Story of my life. Also, any kind of gummy candies.

  11. I thought that grocery cart looked very un-Meredith-esque. It all makes sense now, and I know one day Ave will be doing the same thing to me too. When I was little, I would kill for the mac & cheese from the blue box, never realizing my mom’s homemade version was sooo much better. Silly kids.

Taylor Swift and the Kardashians are fighting. Where have I been?

  12. Oooh I would probably pick up gummy bears and peach rings. I definitely have a sweet tooth, more like sweet teeth.

  13. One of these days there needs to be a pic of you, me and Dina (not from the mitzvah) but all together for a work event-how fun would we have!!! Um-have we ever talked about Celine-are you obsessed with her music as much as I am (and you know me-so not into music)! Can’t wait for the mitzvah-Franny was talking about it tonight she’s so excited-Conga line here we come!!!

    1. yes! we need to all be at one event already! I cannot wait to see her leading the conga line lol. It’s going to be so much fun – maybe she can sing Celine during the karaoke (I think we are adding it – ha )
