Best Onion Rings In New York (plus recent eats)

onion rings

I’m on a mission to locate the best onion rings in New York. It’s not really a new mission for me really, just one I talk about often without consistently working towards until now.

After last week’s epic onion rings disappointment at Surf’s Out, I became even more fixated on locating the best onion rings in New York.

I had to be in the city Monday for a bit so we went to Jackson Hole for dinner. Jackson Hole is a longtime favorite burger joint from my childhood. I may not eat burgers anymore but I just knew that their onion rings would be pretty spectacular. And I was right. While I am sure that I have had Jackson Hole’s onion rings in the past, I couldn’t really remember what I thought of them.

This plate of onion rings was simply perfect. These onion rings had the right kind of crunchy breading that held together when you bit into the onion ring without being too greasy.

I hate the type of onion rings are just fried in a fried dough type of coating. I much prefer a crunchy breading for my onion rings!

I balanced out the onion rings (and mozzarella sticks) with a salad.

I plan to continue to with my mission to locate all of the best onion rings in New York. Of course I will keep you posted with what I find. Bareburger (I reviewed last summer), actually has terrific onion rings even if I didn’t love the overall service or my meal on my second visit.

Other Recent Eats:

I make one meal when I am home lately and it’s THIS salad. My favorite salad of the moment contains a Dr. Praeger’s Veggie burger chopped up with feta cheese and avocado, all mixed together with balsamic vinegar. Really easy and always hits the spot.

We had dinner at Piccolo the other night. I ordered the same grilled vegetables over whole wheat pasta that I had back in June for my birthday. It was cooked in a light garlic and oil which was great even though it looks really bland in the picture.

Lunch at the Cheesecake Factory! Maybe one day I will order something other than my favorite salad. Probably not because then I would miss the onion strings that I love so much. Those onion strings are the reason I love this barbecue ranch salad so much.

We made a stop at Spoons again for the ice cream and cereal combination. If you missed my review of Spoons Ice Cream & Cereal Bar last week, here it is.

  1. O man, I haven’t been to the cheesecake factory in years! They had a jambalaya pasta dish that I thought was great. And of course Adam’s peanut butter fudge ripple cheesecake. Yum!

  2. OMG now I want onion rings!! And ice cream! Haha

My go-to salad combo lately has been spinach, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, and a balsamic dressing. So good and filling!

  3. We don’t go to the Cheesecake factory very often, but next time I should get that salad you usually get. I also love how giant those onion rings are! 🙂

  4. It’s been so long since I’ve had onion rings – I always go for fries – but now I want some! My go-to salad lately has been chickpeas or lentils, chicken (sometimes), butternut squash, and kale with a bit of olive oil.

  5. I wish I could take you to this place in Atlanta called Watershed. They have the BEST onion rings I have ever in my life tasted – and I consider myself something of a connoisseur (like you). 😉 If you’re ever in ATL, check it out!!!

  6. Firstly, girl you gotta give Bareburger another chance! I’ve been there upwards of 10 times, and the service and food are always awesome, so maybe you just had an off day? :/
I also think their sweet potato wild rice burger is phenomenal, as are their onion rings 😉
That salad you make at home I will definitely have to steal; so simple but delicious! Good luck on your continuing search!! 🙂

  7. I have not had onion rings in far too long. We have a place by us that you get like three of them, but they’re giant and the breading is so good. It’s funny as a kid we used to hate onions and my sisters and I would beg mom and dad to order them, then only eat the breading, lol.
