Not In The Mood (weekly workout recap)

Last week was one of the weeks when I just don’t feel like running. I’m sure it had everything to do with the bitter cold winter weather although I guess it really doesn’t matter the reason — what’s important is that I don’t force myself to run more than I actually feel like running.

I’ve learned enough over the years to know that nothing happens when I focus on other workouts and skip running when I’m not in the mood.

While I squeezed one three-mile in last week outside, I had zero interest in running on the treadmill on other days.

What I did enjoy, however, was various yoga/pilates flows from Melissa Wood Health.

There’s always some level of guilt for a runner when they choose other workouts – but I quickly push that feeling aside. I know that any day now I will feel like running! Like I keep saying, this is the hardest time of the year. My mood for running will likely return with warmer weather.

Monday – 25 Min Cardio Warm Up with Full Body Flow + 30 Min Walk 

I didn’t have it in me for a treadmill run this morning but this combo was perfect. Running would have been hard because of all the ice patches but walking was easy to maintain.

Tuesday – Melissa Wood Health Combo

It was bitter cold today – not sure if that had anything to do with my lack of interest in running, even on the treadmill.

  • 5 Min Dancing Sock Series – such a great warm-up, especially when it’s cold outside
  • 36 Min Power Pilates (1 lb weights + resistance band)

Wednesday – 20 Min Wake Me Up Flow + 40 Min Walk

Still not in the mood to run!

This relatively new flow from Melissa Wood Health was amazing — starts slow and picks up the intensity to give a nice cardio boost while being gentle through yoga.

I was able to walk this morning because the temps were in the 20’s which feels warm compared to yesterday.

Thursday – 3 Mile Run (outside)

I’m proud to say I ran three miles this morning. It wasn’t anything special but I did it.

Friday – 25 Min Advanced Yoga + Pilates Flow / 30 Min Walk

Saturday – 54 Min Full Body Flow (1 lb weights + resistance band)

10 degrees with a windchill below zero. I was NOT going outside this morning, not even to walk to the gym for the treadmill.

Sunday – Melissa Wood Health Combo

  • 5 Min Dancing Sock Series – best warm-up
  • 22 Min Full Body Standing Series (bodyweight)
