Workout Recap (Running + Pure Barre 4.9.18 – 4.15.18)

A few things before getting to my workout recap!

I explain this fairly often with my workout recap posts but it’s worth explaining again because it makes me laugh. In order to write-up these workout recap posts, I start the post in my drafts right after finishing Monday’s workout and then add to the post each morning until Sunday morning when I tie it all together.

The funny part for me almost every time is that I NEVER remember Monday’s workout until I look back over my workout recap from the week! Never! I’m always so shocked to see what I did on a Monday like oh, I don’t remember that! Good thing I type it all down when I do.

I would call this a good week in workouts, ending off with real spring weather and sunshine. By Saturday, I was running outside in what I can almost consider warm running temperatures (suddenly close to 60 degrees with bright sunshine). I remembered that I do need time to adjust to running in the warmer weather along with more water and sea salt back in my oatmeal for breakfast (really helps to keep the electrolytes balanced). It’s not supposed to stay so warm right now (it’s been over 70 for two days) although I sure hope it starts to be our routine weather already!

glitter sandals

I’ve never been able to locate my glittered sandals online to share a link but Birkenstock came out with a glittered version for this season – link here.

Also! In case you missed my post earlier this week where I discussed how I haven’t gained weight from running less these last few months, here’s the link. 🙂

Monday – 30 Min Treadmill run

I was absolutely not in the mood for Monday morning and really didn’t feel like putting in more than a 30 minute exercise effort.

So, 30 minutes on the treadmill it was and I felt so much better when I was finished. First 20 minutes between 6.8 – 7.0 (incline alternating 1.0 and 2.0) and then the last 10 minutes between 7.5 – 78.

I extended my walk home from my gym as the sun was really bright and welcoming. Rather than a 1 minute walk home, I probably walked outside for 10 minutes. It felt nice even though it was 28 degrees!

Tuesday – Pure Barre (50 minute/sculpted abs workout)

Wednesday – Gym Day

Although the sun was shining really bright, it was still too chilly for me to want to jump out the door to run so I headed to the gym. I enjoyed today’s workout a whole lot! Here’s what I did:

  • 1 mile treadmill
  • Free weights (like biceps/triceps, things like that)
  • 1 mile treadmill
  • Squats, walking lunges (using either 5 lb or 10 lb free weights – who do I think I am?)
  • 1 mile treadmill

I feel so energized after workouts like this and really enjoy mixing up my miles so it doesn’t feel repetitive and mundane. I think the total time on the treadmill was under 25 minutes. Perfect.

Thursday – 5 Miles (outside!)

It was close to 50 degrees which I felt was warm enough for me to get outside for a run. During the week especially, I just cannot run outdoors in the chillier temps like I used to! I don’t know when this changed for me, but it did. Even today felt cold  at first but I warmed up within the first mile.

No plan, just 5 miles.

Friday – Pure Barre (45 minutes)

Saturday – 7 miles (outside)

Bright sunshine and fairly warm, I headed outside under the assumption that I would run for an hour. I picked up my pace after the first mile and then just went with it until I think mile 6 when I decided to make the last mile a cool down plus a few extra minutes to reach 60 minutes total. If you look at Thursday’s splits, my first mile clocked in at the same pace. I think last week’s outdoor run was the same too!

7 miles

I definitely felt the thirst and fatigue in the few hours after this run, totally associated with suddenly running in warmer weather. It would be nice if the weather stayed like this so I could adjust to the season! Instead, we are dropping back to low 40’s and no warmer days in sight that I can see in the forecast.

Anyone else with sudden spring? How did it feel for you if you ran outside? Is it supposed to stay warm by you?

Best thing you ate so far this weekend?

LOL I went for a run on Friday when it was 83 degrees here in DC…..just don’t do it. It was pretty sucky. I started getting reaaaalllyyy dehydrated and had to take so many more breaks than usual. I think perfect running weather for me is 60-75. I’m loving the sudden spring though.

We’ve had quite the crazy weather here in SoCal, 85 yesterday, 65 today, then back up to the low 90s this weekend. I’m not complaining though because I can still run outside and it feels pretty great!

Yesterday Costco was handing out samples for a milk chocolate covered salted caramel and holy cow, it was probably the best piece of chocolate I have EVER had.
