I held off on sharing my week in workouts post because I REALLY thought I was going to finally use my guest pass for Lifetime yesterday morning. REALLY I DID.
I’m going to take a Life Barre class Sunday morning! Who cares about the time change? I can totally make an 8:30 am barre class! This will be fun! I can share my thoughts on the blog! YES!
For a minute there though, I really thought that I was going. It sounded like such a good idea! Well, taking the barre class sounded like a good idea when I came up with the concept on Saturday.
Then Sunday came and I realized that I’ve reached the point in my life where I just cannot get myself in motion to leave the house too early in the morning when I’m not running, time change or no time change. My mood alternated between I AM SO NOT GOING to then, well yes, of course I AM GOING, which lasted 15 minutes strong until I saw the time and temperature (I had 20 minutes to leave and it was 30 degrees outside) and that was it. Nope, not happening.
Why go to the gym when I can roll out of bed and do Pure Barre from home?
Listen, it’s not like I’m a total slacker here. It’s not like I don’t have the motivation to work out. I just can’t leave the house according to the schedule of a class, especially after a time change AND especially in the cold weather. I’m becoming completely intolerant to winter, did I tell you that?
And anyway, even Meghan Markle does workouts from home via DVD. So I’m completely on trend.
Now that we covered that, moving on to what did actually happen in my week in workouts…

I can’t thank Laura enough for helping me answer my own questions about my running and workout routine in a way that can help educate not only me, but you too. I continue to look back at that post and each time, I truly understand and agree that running less has absolutely helped me grow as a runner in such a short amount of time.
One thing I’m learning about myself and my running is that I need to really rediscover and uncover my working zones and easy zones, especially on the treadmill. It used to be that the treadmill worked so well for me for my interval and speed workouts. These days, as great as the treadmill has been, I have to pay attention to where I’m setting my speed and remember to press the buttons up to bump my pace into my capable zones.
Outside, I can pick up my pace naturally when I want to run faster but on the treadmill, I need to remember to move the speed faster because I can now run much faster without as much effort.
It was all treadmill last week but maybe later this week it will warm up and I will get outside for a run. Maybe. Another storm on horizon for tomorrow.
Monday – 30 Min Cardio (In The Gym)
Even though I slept well, I woke up tired and groggy and not ready to get the day going at all. I went to the gym anyway and chose to bounce my cardio around under the assumption that I would leave feeling refreshed and ready for a strong workout tomorrow.
Here’s what I did:
- 10 min elliptical
- 10 min treadmill (1.20 miles)
- Free weights (don’t ask what I do, I’m no strength training expert. HA)
- 10 min treadmill (1.25 miles)
- Jumping jacks/squats
DONE. I left feeling energized and awake, ready for the day and inspired for a great run on the treadmill tomorrow.
Tuesday – 6 Miles (treadmill)
I planned on running 5 miles but then my favorite Air Supply song came on as I was cooling down (I mentioned this on Instagram!) so I stayed on to listen to the song which took me to 6 miles.
Wednesday – 40 Min Pure Barre
Thursday – 45 Min Run/ 5.50 Miles (intervals/treadmill)
We had another Nor’Easter yesterday which left us with some snow. Luckily I really like running on the treadmill right now and it’s only a super short walk over to the gym in my community. One of my favorite parts about where I live is having a really nice gym within steps of my front door.
Awesome interval run today!
- 1 mile easy (mainly because I was on the phone, HA).
- 4 miles of intervals: .25 fast/.10 easy throughout the 4 miles
- Cool down to 45 minutes
- My working zone were speeds between 7.8 – 8.1 and my easy zone was set at 6.8.
Friday – 50 Min Pure Barre (sculpted abs)
The Pure Barre workouts which focus on abs and core are KILLER.
Saturday – Treadmill 10K! (7.5 miles total)
I decided to run a 10K during my treadmill run today! As you may remember, my goal on Saturday’s now is to run 60 minutes and see what I can accomplish during that time.
I had my choice of treadmills in the gym today, not sure where everyone else was considering I wasn’t all that early.
After a one mile warm up, I set the speed to 7.5 (8:00 min/mile) and didn’t drop below that until I reached 6.2 miles. I’m not totally sure of my exact time but under the assumption that my first mile was around 9:30 and my total time (with the mile warm up plus the 6.2 miles) I hit 57:46. So like 48:26 or something like that?
My best 10K race was 47:59 (recap here) so I really wasn’t even far off from that pace.
I tried to hold conservative for the first few miles, only bumping up a bit between the 7.5 – 8.0. With two miles to go, I pushed myself to be more between 7.7 – 8.1.
My pace was more in the fast end of my half marathon pace/ slow end of a 10K pace but I think I was in a good place. It wasn’t too challenging that I couldn’t continue but it worked me enough to feel fatigued towards the end. I know I run can faster than this but this was a good start mentally to see where I’m at.
Sunday – Pure Barre Pure Results (Focus On Seat) Workout
So this used to be my go-to Pure Barre workout every Sunday morning for a year. For some reason, I’ve stopped loving it. I can’t even tell you exactly why. There’s just something about the exercises in this particular Pure Barre workout that I’ve come to not favor as much as the other Pure Barre routines that I do on a regular basis. I went through the motions and was happy when it was done.
