I started this little blog five years ago this week. 5 years! Half a decade! Half of my thirties! Nine half marathons! 10K’s, 5’s, and other races too! All documented here!
What is there really to say about five years of blogging? I mean, I’ve been saying it just by writing on a daily basis almost every day now for five years.
Clearly I enjoy writing. Clearly I enjoy chatting with you every day and I so appreciate the blogging/running community for everything it continues to add to our lives.
Did I ever think I would keep up such a consistent blog? I don’t really know the answer to that if you want to know the truth.
I’m not the type of person to start and stop things (except Pampered Chef. I once did that and gave it up fairly quickly) but I also don’t think I thought ahead five years to even consider that I would still be writing every morning!
^My first blogging event – The Fitness Magazine Meet & Tweet back in 2013!
I started this blog simply because I was already a blog reader, so why couldn’t I be a blog writer too? In that process, I developed my voice and created a career for myself that allows me to do something I love while expanding my horizons, knowledge, friendships and opportunities. My blog became not only my space for writing and sharing, it became an online resume for me to showcase what I can do. It paved the way for the writing I’ve been doing in the event industry these last few years now while also giving me something that is my own space and really, my own brand.
I didn’t even know that I loved to write, that’s what’s so funny here. It comes naturally but I never dreamed I would venture in this direction following my divorce. Like, I honestly never thought I was going to work another day in my life when I had my son (true statement) but writing doesn’t feel like working. My blog certainly doesn’t feel like a job even though it makes money.
I’ve learned so much by running my own blog. Sometimes I still don’t feel tech savvy but my blogging skills, ability to speak plug-in’s and wordpress, plus the modern-day marketing skills I’ve adapted actually help me to do the work that I do in the event industry. It’s kind of cool when I think about it!
So much of my life has been shared here and having memorable life moments (like the Bar Mitzvah!) documented means so very much to me. I look back to see that my son was in the fourth grade when I started this blog and now he’s in high school. How did that happen so quickly?
Obviously as a blogger it can be challenging to keep certain things private while still sharing so much but I’ve figured out how to do that while always speaking my truth and revealing as much as possible.
I write how I speak so if you know me personally, you can literally hear my voice and personality as I write. If I ever became a vlogger, you would enjoy mock my New York accent.
I started out writing more about divorce and sharing lots of recipes but as with everything in life, that slowly changed. My divorce is more behind me every day and with that comes an inability to write about the topic often because it’s not something I think about regularly anymore.
Recipes are few and really far between as well but maybe that will change at some point. Life doesn’t stay the same day after day which means my blog can’t really stay the same either!
^This top 5 most view blog recipes post is still extremely accurate!
I don’t overanalyze my blog or plan much in advance. In some ways maybe that’s bad but in others, it’s just more natural.
I can’t really say what’s in store for this space going forward because that all depends upon the day, what I’m currently eating, what makeup I’m wearing, and what I feel like talking about. I am slowly going through the process of redesigning the layout here though! Stay tuned for that. 🙂
Thank you for reading every day and sharing along with me! It’s been a fun five years!

My blog s 5 years old this week! #thinkingoutloud #blog #blogger #blogging #onthisday Click To TweetIf you are a blogger, how long have you been blogging? What made you start your blog?
How old were you 5 years ago?
What’s for lunch today?
I will have been blogging for 5 years in August! Its crazy to think about. While I don’t blog every day anymore its still a whole lot of posts over that amount of time. And I love that we met in person so I actually know what your voice sounds like so when I read your blog its like I can hear you talking. Congrats on making it to 5 years!

Isn’t it crazy to realize how long it’s been with our blogs? And it’s even crazier that it will be two years ago now that we met for lunch! How weird is that.
Congratulation! Your strength as a writer, and obviously as an individual, is that you don’t over analyze or plan. You are honest, witty, intelligent, big-hearted and straightforward all combined together make a great person. We all evolve as each year passes. My yoga, running, likes, dislikes and my ability to streamline and run my life—exercise, meals, careers and most important of all to me my family—comes so easily and naturally. I love this stage, it just all passes by wayyyyy to fast. Healthy, happy and wonderful next five and then some more to you!
Thank you as always for your extremely kind words, they mean a lot to me! 🙂
It seems like 5 years flew by for you! That’s awesome you have stuck with it for so long. I have been blogging since May 2017 so 8 months now. It’s awesome to develop my writing. Like you, I started it because I read blogs so why not write one too. Lunch today is pretty standard for work – a peanut butter sandwich, carrots, pretzels and hummus plus a Greek yogurt around 3 pm.
peanut butter sandwiches are always the perfect lunch! And yes, in some ways, these 5 years have really flown by!
Congrats on 5 years!! I read your blog every morning 🙂

Awww, thank you so much! 🙂
Congrats on five years! I sometimes hear your voice as I read your blog after talking with you a few times in person. I’m so glad you started blogging and we were able to “meet!” Five years ago I was in my first year of grad school – five years both feels like a long time and as if time has passed quickly!

Right? It feels like yesterday yet so much has gone on in the last 5 years!
Wow, I just looked back and I started mine 2013 after running a couple of 1/2 marathons. I started really more of a journal.
5 years ago I was 31.
Today’s lunch is carrots & hummus, & hardboiled eggs with spicy tuna.

Would you believe I’m coming up on my 6 year blogging anniversary? I never knew/thought/hoped it would go for this long, and yet here I am. Like you, I enjoy writing and documenting my kiddo’s life as well. That’s been a real highlight the past year or so. It’s like a journal she can read one day when she’s older (much, much older).

The time just goes by so fast, right? I wish I had my son’s early years documented better! Back then, believe it or not, we didn’t even have cameras built into our phones!
Happy Blogging Birthday!!! It’s just a tiny bit over 5 years for me too, and I definitely never expected it to last this long or become a job for me. I’ve taken a few breaks here and there, but it always sucks me back in because deep down I really do love it. And it’s given me the opportunity to meet some pretty freaking cool people 🙂

One day you will come to New York!
Happy Blogaversary! I’ve been blogging just about 6 months, was 14 going on 15 five years ago, and for lunch today was a loaded smoothie with blueberries, spinach, peanut butter, protein powder, chia, and hemp seeds 🙂

I’ve been a fan for quite a while now, and I always love getting your posts in my inbox! Keep at it 🙂

Aw thank you 🙂 — sounds like a good lunch!
I’ve been reading your blog for 3 years now… congrats on the full 5! This was right when I started to get into running and I remember being like “oh my gosh she runs so much she is so fit”. When my times for runs started to get closer to yours it made me really excited. I’m in college (22) so the posts of yours that have meant the most to me have been those pertaining to being at a healthy weight and eating intuitively.
I have a lot of favorite posts but the one that jumped out at me first is the one where you talked about guys reactions towards your weight and when you were too skinny. In particular, the comment about some guy saying you looked great when you knew you needed to put on some weight really stuck with me and caused me to have some insight to a particular person in my life. I’m pretty certain that without the influence of blogs like yours my body image would be in a way worse place and I’m glad to have avoided that. Thank you for everything!
PS my lunch is leftover rice with stir fried tofu, avocado, and whatever veggies still exist in my fridge.
Awww, thank you so much for this comment! I am always so happy to hear from my readers and thrilled/humbled to learn how I have made an impact! I know exactly which post you are referring to too and I am so glad it helped you to gain some insight into your own life and relationships. I hope that I can continue to inspire you. 🙂
It doesn’t seem like it has been 5 years! But thats amazing; I think ice had mine on and off for 3 years now?? But 5 years ago I was 15!
