Weekend Things + Lentil Soup

The worst thing for an almost daily blogger like me is the worry that you have not taken enough pictures to recap your weekend.

But here’s the thing. I couldn’t take any pictures Friday night because I was way too focused on driving through the snow. It only snowed a few inches but it was so bad to have to drive in while it was coming down, at night no less! It took me an hour and a half to get somewhere that normally takes 10 minutes.

In my old age, I worry so much about the other drivers on the road. My car handles really well in the snow (love my car 🙂 ) but my fear of everyone around me only heightens as I get older. I couldn’t help but think about my younger self who would cruise around after blizzards like nothing, but now? Forget it. I think and worry about everything.

I also think this was my car’s first snowfall! And oh how a white car gets dirty.

After my long run Saturday on the treadmill, I ran a few errands, took my son over to his friend and then headed to the mall to do a return at the Gap. In the process, of course I found us a new top. I say us because I think you need it too. Please get all the colors, it’s a good one and a great price. If you order online, remember that the Gap runs big!

And then of course I stopped at the Bloomingdale’s Dior counter to say hi to my favorite makeup artists. I feel like I want/need a new nude lipstick and thought I liked this one but then after reviewing the selfie I took of myself, I think it’s the wrong shade. This is why I never really make lipstick purchases the first time I try on a new color. I like to wear it around, look in mirrors and take pictures to decide. It’s too blah. I understand nude is blah by nature but some nudes can still brighten the face while being blah.

And I am OBSESSED with my new scarf. Obsessed. I even wear it around the house!

Totally missed pictures from dinner Saturday night but I did share a random slice of Linda’s Fudge cake (I say random because we didn’t have dinner at Cheesecake Factory) to cap off the night.

I had to be up and out early Sunday morning to get my son. He slept out because I had plans Saturday night so I needed to pick him up and get him to a baseball card show and then to his outdoor hockey game.

From there it was home for him to shower and then off to my friend Lisa’s house so the boys could watch football and us girls (Lisa has two daughters)  could do girly things.

Lisa is the best cook. Lucky for me, she had just made a giant stockpile of her chunky lentil soup. You can add more vegetable broth to the lentil soup when you heat it up if you want it thinner but we both like it chunky so we can chew our food. I loved this lentil soup and really think she should share the recipe with us for the blog.

My son has always loved to go to Lisa’s house since he was a baby. I think a lot of it has to do with not only her pantry of snacks but the mozzarella sticks and other treats she stocks for the kids to eat.

And oh, it’s been Hanukkah for days now. I believe it ends tomorrow night. My son asked me if he would be getting a dog on the last night of Hanukkah. Like, not only are you NOT getting a dog but haven’t you learned that the last night of Hanukkah is usually the leftover, after thought, you are lucky to even get anything 8 nights into Hanukkah already type of present?!

I have become so much more nervous driving in winter weather as I have gotten older, especially since moving to MD where they really don’t know how to drive in the snow. I have become a more nervous driver and will avoid driving in the snow unless absolutely necessary. It was bad here on Friday too! I left work early and it still took me about twice as long to get home.

I buy a lentil stew that looks just like that but has carrots, onions, kashia, lentils and tomatoes in it and I eat it for dinner with roasted mixed color sweet potatoes yum–guess you decided my dinner for tonight.

I really think I could get used to eating this lentil soup for dinner every night with a potato! I know lisa said there were diced potatoes in this soup along with carrots but I really need the recipe.

I was a terrible driver in high school. One January on my way back from taking the SAT way too early on a Saturday morning in the snow and ice I fishtailed and landed my parents’ car in the ditch. A trucker who had also spun off helped push it out again. I never told my parents.

Oh and lentils…I JUST made them for the first time last week in my brand new InstaPot (which is definitely not as instant as it sounds when it takes FORTY minutes to warm up). However the lentils were lovely.

Your scarf is adorable!! I would be the same in snow. It hasn’t snowed in our city since Jan. 1999! And when it did, it literally shut down our entire city!

My weekend was pretty great! We did a favorite things/white elephant/bday celebration and everyone brought their favorite main dish so it was super yummy! My favorite was the hub’s white peppermint fudge though 🙂

I’m a huge fan of lentil soup and would love Lisa’s recipe. Sometimes I think getting the kids together with girlfriends and their kids makes the whole stay at home mom thing more bearable. Of course it’s awesome, but there are days she tries my patience and pushes all my buttons. Littler stinker.

I should keep mozzarella sticks on hand. Then again, I’d probably eat them all.
