What I Bought This Week At Trader Joe’s

 

I have no food shopping plan or system anymore beyond just knowing that I need to go to Trader Joe’s.

It’s getting a bit pathetic if you want to know the truth. I don’t make a list, I don’t really know exactly what I need and I never have an advanced idea of what I am making for dinner (if I cook at all).

Something probably needs to change but I don’t have the desire to make the change at the moment. Meal planning, meal prep, and food shopping are just a BORE and a CHORE to me right now. I still think part of this lack of interest stems from letting go of caring about food  so I’ve sort of accepted that it’s okay to be in this phase. We all go through phases so my guess is that, like anything else, this phase will pass eventually.

Anyway! Here’s what I bought this week at Trader Joe’s. It was not a big shop but I did pick up a few basics that I felt we needed. Please note that I didn’t pick up peanut butter or oatmeal because I knew I had those staples in the house. Those are probably the only two items I keep track of right now!

  • Organic Eggs
  • Organic Carrots
  • Organic Chick Peas
  • Shaved Beef Steak < – I made cheese steaks one night for my son and he actually thought it was the best dinner I’ve ever made.
  • Organic Baked Beans < – New favorite! I originally bought the baked beans for my son a few weeks ago but it’s me who is obsessed! I love them over a sweet potato!
  • Fire Roasted Bell Peppers & Onions < – Slightly different purchase for me! I started buying this frozen bag of vegetables recently and I really like the change of flavor and variety in my routine vegetables selection!
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Shredded Part Skim Mozzarella Cheese
  • Shredded Lite Mexican Blend
  • Chocolate Chip Chewy Coated Granola Bars
  • Halloween Joe Joe’s
  • Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese
  • Meatless Meatballs

Let’s discuss the meatless meatballs briefly. I used to buy the Trader Joe’s meatless meatballs years ago and then gave them up probably in like 2013 when I decided they were a processed meatless protein and not good enough for me. Well, they have been on my mind recently so I decided to buy them, regardless of the type of processed meatless protein they may contain. I can’t overthink things like that anymore and highly doubt a few servings of meatless meatballs are going to hurt me any more than anything else. At first they tasted weird to me and not as I had remembered but then after a few bites, I liked them. I think overall I am just glad that I bought them because they had been on my mind. Craving satisfied.

I bought very little in the way of produce this week which maybe you noticed. Lately I I think most of my produce comes from Stew Leonard’s (like salad ingredients and potatoes) and honestly, I don’t each much in the way of fruit at the moment aside from the unpictured frozen blueberries (which were in fact in the top part of the cart) and the occasional diced apple in my morning bowl of oatmeal. Usually I grab a bag of frozen broccoli every week at Trader Joe’s but I didn’t this week. I think I still have a bag in my freezer but I don’t even know for sure. See, that’s out of touch I am right now with my food shopping!

    I have been having smoothies for breakfast every morning so I always need to make sure I have ingredients for those. I tend to run out of almond milk faster than I would expect so Ive been more careful lately to make sure I have enough!

    Always need PB (which I buy) and almond butter which I make—plus coffee and the fixins to go with it!!! I can survive on those two items–so all good as long as stocked up!

    This makes me crave meatballs, the kind with meat though. Weird right? I suspect it’s because I keep getting my period and my body wants iron. Plus, the Fall means homemade spaghetti and meatballs for me.

    Embrace the phase (I know you already are) and eventually it’ll flip flop again.
