Monday birthdays can actually be really amazing. It’s waking up on Tuesday to realize it’s only Tuesday and you have to jump back into regular life after your birthday that can be a bit of a problem.
The first day of 39 though was worth being beyond tired yesterday to the point where I skipped my run and even turned off the Pure Barre workout I had started. I went to sleep late Monday night and had to be up early yesterday to pick up my son from my parents in order to get him to school on time.
My body, and even my brain, were both completely uninterested in any type of movement which may have had something to do with lack of sleep. Or the wine. Or walking something over like 60 city blocks plus a few avenues but who’s counting.
I worked through the morning on Monday from home but had my game plan all ready for Monday afternoon after a quick drive (no traffic!) to the city.
Park car, walk over to Bloomingdales, head straight to seventh floor for the Forty Carrots frozen yogurt, proceed to eat while shopping.
Forty Carrots likes to put the toppings in the middle which helps you to not lose any on top. 🙂
I felt a ping in my heart for the days when Heather and I would parade ourselves through the second floor of Bloomingdales, spending hours upon hours trying on clothes and then hitting the makeup < – Wait! This means I remember my early 20’s!
While Heather wasn’t with me this time, I did call her a few times while shopping. The afternoon hours on Monday flew by in a flash between looking around Bloomingdales, playing at the makeup counters and popping into Saks too.
We had dinner at Hillstone which is one of my favorite restaurants. Houston’s (which is a part of Hillstone) closed in my area so going to Hillstone in the city was an extra special treat.
We started with two sushi rolls (unpictured) and I ordered the vegetable plate. The vegetable plate allowed me to select four side dishes as my meal. I went with the baked potato (best baked potatoes ever!) plus cauliflower, cole slaw (their cole slaw is amazing) and a roasted pepper and feta thing. So good.
For dessert we shared the brownie sundae (because sometimes I am capable of sharing).
The forecast had called for rain all day and night but I lucked out because there wasn’t even a drizzle the entire time. It turned out to be a really nice night!
When I tell you I dragged yesterday from all of the fun on Monday, I really mean I DRAGGED. This being 39 thing totally reinforces the fact that I need every minute of my sleep because without it at this age, I am a total mess.
Thanks again to everyone who reached out to wish me a Happy Birthday!Birthday fun in the city plus dinner at Hillstone! @hillstone #NYC #bloomingdales #birthday #birthdaydinner Click To Tweet
Do you have a Houston’s or Hillstone near you? What’s your favorite dish?
Do you function well with little sleep or is it getting harder as you get older?
