Taking a look at what I ate on Monday!
Breakfast:
Here’s a peak inside my post-run oats in a jar plus side of coffee. I always miss the picture of my pre-run small bowl of oatmeal but at least I remember the post-run meal!
We really don’t address post-run meals often enough. Eating within 30-60 minutes after your run is crucial for muscle repair and recovery. I even think that your post-run meal is pretty important to your overall health and well-being.
The meal after your workout is not the place to skimp on your calories or nutrition.
Please let me know if we need to discuss the topic of post-run meals more in depth. I know I did a post on post-run meals a while back (here it is) but it’s possible we need to discuss the importance again in a new post.
It makes me nervous to think that there are still runners out there not eating immediately following a workout, especially if it’s because they are looking to save calories.
In the jar: oatmeal, frozen blueberries, Skoop B-Strong, cinnamon and peanut butter.
Lunch:
I worked all morning without looking up from my computer aside from refilling my mug of tea several times. When it was time for lunch, I had three issues:
- I was in the mood FOR NOTHING.
- There was very little to choose from in my kitchen.
- I had no time to go out for lunch.
Rather than having peanut butter and jelly, I roasted frozen broccoli with a Dr. Praeger’s veggie burger. The best part of my random lunch was that we had cucumber salad left in the refrigerator! I added some on top.
Dinner:
This is what I call a complete Trader Joe’s dinner.
It’s important to note that I do not often eat fish. In fact, I didn’t eat fish until was 31 years old and even now, I can go months without it. Sometimes I buy the frozen wild Argentinian red shrimp from Trader Joe’s. They don’t always have it in stock but last week they did so I figured it was a good protein idea.
I stir fried the wild shrimp and broccoli in the Trader Joe’s Island Soyaki sauce. It’s really good when served with brown rice and avocado. Similar to this recipe.
Trader Joe’s foods used in this dinner:
- Frozen wild Argentinian red shrimp
- Frozen brown rice medley (comes in a box of three pouches)
- Frozen broccoli
- Island Soyaki
- Avocado
Dessert:
Nothing really in particular. Since I gave up interest in apples, I just kind of pick at what we have in the pantry. I think I had some Hershey’s Kisses.

Are you good about eating after a workout? What is your favorite post-run meal?
What was for dinner last night?
I almost always eat eggs after a workout, but if Im too tired immediately after my run to cook then I have some sort of snack like a protein bar right away. Sometimes I do smoothies if my stomach feels off and I cant handle a big meal. I am not really big on fish either. Sometimes I will do salmon but thats about it.

I really don’t love fish and sometimes order wild salmon but I don’t think I actually like it lol
Soooooo yummy, I’m hungry now and I can’t keep my eyes away from these dishes. I love eating cucumber salad, and mixed rice also. Those shrimps and broccoli look so fresh. I would add some ketchup & sweet chilli for more tasty 🙂

love sweet chili sauce!
That shrimp bowl looks so good!! I always eat oatmeal after my weekday runs and sonething like a a bagel and eggs after a weekend run. Eating within that hour window is so important.
I really liked the shrimp stir fry – I have to remember to make it more often!
That shrimp dish looks great!
My dinner last night was out with the girls! We went to a really laid back BYOB Middle Eastern restaurant and had a blast. Spent about 3 hours there catching up over wine and an excellent meal! Can’t ever go wrong with warm pita bread and hummus!

sounds like so much fun and my kind of night! I love ordering the hummus at greek restaurants, it’s always so good!
I have to eat right after I run because I have to wait to run until my stomach is empty otherwise I end up having GI issues on my run!

I’ve been trying to have a lot of protein after my runs lately, so today I had overnight oats with mocha Vega mixed in. It was really good and I haven’t been hungry since eating it! I’m usually starving by now, but I think that helped me a lot.

I am really good about eating after a run on the weekends; however, on week days I have to leave for work by 7 so I’m lucky if I get coffee and a shower before leaving for work. I do have a canister of oatmeal and Vega protein powder stashed in my desk though 🙂
For dinner last night, I jogged about 2 miles with the fam (the hubs, a 9 yo, 11 yo, and 13 yo) to Pieology. We all had I had a cheeseless veggie pizza and it was delish!

Hershey’s kisses don’t sound too bad right about now. I guess it’s time for my afternoon sweet tooth to hit.
