This week was such an up and down week in workouts! One day was great, the next day was just BLEH.
Once I noticed the pattern though, I knew what to expect and just went with however I was feeling which translated into running a little bit less on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I still ran six days this week with three treadmill runs and three outdoor runs. Considering it’s January and the week started out with snow and 5 degrees, I think it’s great I was able to get outside to run as often as I did.
Monday – Pure Barre Studio Series/4 Miles
This was the workout I wrote about in Tuesday’s post about needing to sometimes run on autopilot. I really didn’t think I was in the mood to run (AT ALL!) but once I got on the treadmill, I ended up having a terrific run.
Tuesday – 7 Miles
Today’s mood was completely different from yesterday! I woke up ready and interested in running which translated into a great treadmill run. 7 miles done in 60 minutes which means the treadmill didn’t shut off and switch to cool down mode on me while I was still going!
Wednesday – In The Gym
I skipped Pure Barre in favor of going to the gym with the intention of doing one of my running and strength workouts.
Things really didn’t go as planned.
I was tired and my legs were sort of like lead so after 3 miles on the treadmill, I switched to the elliptical for 10 minutes before calling cardio quits for the day.
In between somewhere was some strength stuff (like squats, lunges and free weights) but not much because that stuff felt blah too. It was one of those days when you lift a 5 lb free weight and it feels really heavy!
Thursday – 7 Miles
It’s amazing how different one can feel from one day to the next! It was suddenly 50 degrees which meant I was running outside and each mile just felt so comfortable.
Friday – Pure Barre/3.50 Miles
In keeping with the nature of the week, I knew I was due for a bleh workout day.
Today wasn’t terrible actually, I just didn’t feel like running more than the 3.50 miles so I didn’t.
I combined 3 Pure Barre Tone in 10 workouts for a total of 30 minutes of Pure Barre:
- Arms & Abs
- Thighs & Seat
- Seat & Abs
I use both the 3 lb and 5 lb weights for the Pure Barre Tone in 10 arms & abs series. While I definitely use the 5 lb free weights most of the time these days in Pure Barre, I like to use the lighter set for the arm section that takes place during the ab work.
Saturday – 13 Miles
I haven’t run 13 miles in several weeks so this long run was exactly what I needed!
I really like to keep routine with this distance because I find it SO EASY to fall out of rhythm with being able to comfortably run 13 miles < – comfortable is obviously a relative term here, it’s not truly comfortable by any means when you get over 10 miles but you know what I mean.
The run started out awesome and then Heather called me around mile 3 so I spoke to her until mile 7. Chatting with Heather slowed me a bit but I didn’t care, I was happy to catch up while she was out walking in shorts and a t-shirt in Florida and I was bundled in every layer possible in New York.
You can see through the splits when I was clearly on the phone:
Sunday – Pure Barre
Sunday mornings usually mean the Pure Barre Pure Results (focus on thighs) workout. I reviewed this 55 minute online workout recently, here it is if you missed it!

My motivation is definitely influenced by the weather. I hate not knowing what each week will bring or being able to plan my week in advance! I did get to run outdoors 3 times this week but it was kind of icy on Wednesday. I am so grateful for each outdoor run because it always feels good to get fresh air, even when its colder than I would like!

Great workouts this week!
Today is a rest day because I’m currently traveling home from London! Spent the weekend running around the city and excited to get home and back into my workout routine!

We had another week of cold weather, but it was so nice because it didn’t rain and we had blue skies. Someday the cold or rain affects my motivation but then I am always glad I ran outside once I start doing it and finish.
