I received the link to the Bar Mitzvah pictures yesterday from the photographer!
While it’s going to take me FOREVER and a day to really sort through all of the photos to decide which will make it to albums and which will be blown up to be framed, I did jump down to the end of the gallery to share a few pictures of the candy table with you!
We weren’t so sure that the photographer captured any pictures of the candy table as the kids attacked the display as soon as it was set up at the end of the night.
But look! Here are a few pictures!
The Whirly Pops make me so happy with all of their pretty colors.
So I am not a DIY type person but the candy table was basically DIY since my caterer allowed me to bring it all in for them to set up. I also did a major DIY for me when I chose to make two lollipop topiary centerpieces.
Have you heard of these lollipop topiary centerpieces? They are sometimes called lollipop trees?
You poke a bunch of dum dum lollipops into a foam ball and then place it on some sort of base. My base of choice for both centerpieces were crystal candlesticks but there are so many base options!
I made two lollipop centerpieces (one for each side of the candy table) and I don’t see a ton of photos of them but here’s a close up which gives you a good idea of what the lollipop part looks like.
It’s super easy to make too! Here’s a link on pinterest if you are interested in learning more how to make a lollipop topiary centerpiece.
So anyway, I originally planned to talk food shopping and recipes of interest today but now my life is all sidetracked by the Bar Mitzvah pictures.
I mean really, look at us. I don’t think we ever laughed so hard as we did at the Bar Mitzvah and the photographer caught it all in this picture!
Do you see why I have been distracted and removed from my usual way of living and cooking for the last couple of months? This party took over my world and now it is taking over this post which wasn’t supposed to happen!
I did try this week to cook a little bit more than I have been and what I mean by a little bit more, I mean I made my black bean and quinoa chili on a total whim. In fact, I added a can of organic kidney beans to the recipe and highly recommend you do the same. It was such a wonderful texture combination that I think meat eaters will agree it’s a delicious chili even without the meat.
I even returned to reading recipe posts and getting excited about some of the ideas I have seen so hopefully that means there will be more cooking in my future.
Here are a few of the recipes which excited me last week, I even pinned them. I haven’t pinned a recipe in at least a month!
Quinoa Meatball Sub with Grilled Peppers and Onions
Iced Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Baked Apples

Those lollipop centerpieces look so cool! I have no patience for DIY crafts even though the end result is always beautiful. At my wedding I just left ny creative friends in charge of decorating!

no joke that laughing picture is the funniest picture I have ever seen of myself and my friends! absolutely hysterical.
Seriously impressive DIY! I’ve been meaning to make chili but seem to have a mental block with it and it hasn’t happened. Eggplant lasagna sounds soooo good!

one day maybe I will try the recipe lol
Everything looks so good! And the pictures came out great! I did a few DIY things for our wedding but nothing too complicated.

thanks! I think a few diy things is the right balance, rather than attempting to do it at yourself. I much prefer to pay a professional!
Those lollipop centerpieces look great! I would never have guessed making them was so straightforward. I’m the type of person who wants to be a DIY person… and then it gets to the last minute and I buy everything. Maybe one day I’ll get my act together 😛

And lately… I’ve been obsessing over hassleback sweet potatoes and using roasted acorn squash halves as bowls for pretty much everything. Easy + carbs = yes.
