This is a four day weekend for us since Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Sunday. I am very much looking forward to these few days as I try to take a deep breath in the midst of the Bar Mitzvah hoopla that is my life.
My son’s actual birthday is coming up on Thursday (13!) so although the real celebration is the week after at his Bar Mitzvah, I still have to scramble to make Thursday a special day for him. Oh, and I have Bridal Fashion Week coming up this week in the city too.
To say we have a lot going on right now is an understatement!
Between me still eating bland and living as the carb queen while my son has his own revolution going on against anything I wish to cook for him, I haven’t actually been cooking much and probably won’t settle back into real planning of dinners until after the Bar Mitzvah weekend.
I did come across a few recipes I will be trying as soon as I feel like experimenting again with our recipe challenge plus some other valuable links that I wanted you to see so I figured I would round them up and share them with you today.

If you are Jewish, what are you making for the holidays? Have you ever made challah?
Where did you have coffee yesterday for National Coffee Day?
Meredith, what is Rosh Hashanah? I could Google it, but I’d way rather hear it from you. I should really know what it is by now, so I’m risking being made fun of by asking this question!! Ha! You’ve got so many things going on right now! Hang in there!

it’s the jewish new year. you get to eat apples and honey and get off from school and work too 🙂
Love it! What’s the religious part of it? Like, what’s the story? Who decided that this particular date is the start of another year?

I googled it! It’s a long answer. It’s 163 days after the first day of Passover, basically. I like learning about stuff like this. Apples and honey sound great! I love the symbolism.

i was about to send you this link lol http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday2.htm
We are chilling/relaxing this weekend. My daughter is staying home with me today as she has a gross cough and I don’t want her hacking on her friends:)) I am making Chicken Marbella for the family on Sunday (and fish for me). I have to figure out the rest of the dinner today. Lots of my friends make Challah…they have “challah making parties.” I have not participated. I think my fam prefers the ones made at Jewish deli’s!!
Just had coffee at home because I had no clue it was national coffee day!
Enjoy your long weekend!

we were supposed to try making challah as a mitzvah project — I guess I still have some time to do it? lol
I need that winter squash link. Perfect timing.

I haven’t made challah but my mom makes an amazing one! I was thinking for dessert of doing a DIY Carmel apple bar (Pinterest!) with apples dipped in carmel and pick your own toppings from a toppings bar. And then I realized I have a 3 and 7 year old and that is just asking for a huge mess. So I think I will make my own carmel dipped apples with chocolate chips and other fun toppings! Happy new year!
ive seen that caramel apple bar – that’s really fun! have a happy new year
Family is coming over Sunday so I’ll definitely me making a few things, haven’t figured any of it out yet, thankful for the blog so I have a few recipes, lol! Thanks for linking to my skillet cookie!

love getting a blow out!!
I’m making a gluten free honey cake! Although every recipe is one of those GF ones that call for 4 kinds of flours I don’t normally use so maybe I’ll be resorting to a mix 😉

I hate when recipes call for a ton of different flours!
