Willy Wonka, Pool Time, Jump Rope Champ (TOL)

thinking out loud

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all time favorite movies so the passing of Gene Wilder certainly makes me sad. If it was MY Bat Mitzvah coming up, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory would totally be the theme of my party. Who wouldn’t want giant lollipops lining the entrance to the affair along with trees filled with gummy bears and maybe a chocolate river if the décor team said it was possible to recreate? It’s not like I have given this theme any thought or anything.

Of course I tried to pass this theme idea onto my son for his Bar Mitzvah a year ago when we started the planning for his party but he didn’t want any part of my idea since he thinks anything I suggest is just lame. His loss if you ask me.

We won’t discuss that today is September 1st which means the Bar Mitzvah is in oh, 45 days. Things are getting real serious around here in the planning and preparation department. But we won’t discuss it. I am tired of discussing it and thinking about it.

Did you know I have a pool in my community? If you didn’t, it’s not your fault because it’s as if I don’t have a pool steps away from my front door considering I NEVER GO ANYMORE.

Why is this? When did it happen that I went from being a fixture on a lounge chair at our pool to now not even knowing who the pool regulars are that deserve nicknames made up by me based on their odd pool behaviors.

We stopped by the pool finally the other night though but it was basically empty which means I wasn’t able to people watch. I think I only went over to our pool one other time this summer. What have I been doing?! I don’t even know the answer to that.

Running this week:

Have you been wondering what my workouts have been like this week after I mentioned in Sunday’s post that I felt like I needed some sort of change or a cut back of a running week?

Well, I am happy to say that I have been enjoying this week’s workouts for sure. I wake up each morning and just decide what it is I will do based on what I feel like doing, rather than go on autopilot with my usual running and Pure Barre rotation.

I have mixed things up and cut my mileage each day a bit too. I haven’t stopped running completely as the desire to run is definitely there, just with a need to do it differently.  The gym has been my pal this week as I have been in there a lot to use the treadmill, elliptical and weights.

When was the last time you whipped out a jump rope? I thought to take mine out Monday morning in my effort for something different. It’s been so super fun that I have made it a point to jump rope each morning and with each passing day, I seem to get better and better at it!

jump rope

I wrote a jump rope review last year (here it is) which discussed this TKO jump rope along with some of the healthy benefits of jumping rope. I was reading up on the health benefits of jumping rope again yesterday and came across an article (which I can’t find now to share here, ugh!) but it said something like if you can jump rope consistently for ten straight minutes, it would be equal in effort to 30 minutes of running. What do you think?

I cannot even imagine jumping rope for ten straight minutes although there was a time in my life when I am sure running ten minutes straight seemed impossible!

Totally Random Questions Today:

Do you remember playing the game 7 Up when you were a kid in elementary school? Heads down, thumbs up, time to play 7 Up?

Do you like to jump rope? Are you good at it? Can you double dutch jump rope like they used to do on Sesame Street?

Did school start in your area? Did you know that some schools start around here today but not my son’s school?

What are you having for breakfast today?

Did you see the new Fitbit that was released? I think it’s the Fitbit Charge 2 that comes in special edition colors? I don’t have one but do you think this new one is worth it?

The governor of Maryland just passed something yesterday saying that starting next year schools will have to start after Labor Day! This is very strange because he also said they will get out by June 15th. I guess we will be cutting out some of the breaks?
We have a pool in our community but Ive only gone like twice this summer.
I couldnt imagine jumping rope for 10 minutes straight! I don’t even think I could do 1 minute right now.

We have a pool at our apartment and I’ve gone twice in our whole time here – both times to soak my legs and feet in the hot tub. I did about 5 minutes of jump rope to warm up for weight lifting a few weeks ago. Back in college when it would snow a ton and I didn’t feel like running on the treadmill, I’d skip rope for 30 min to mimic running.

I kind of wish I’d gone swimming more this year, but alas, I didn’t. 🙂 Oh well. 🙂

I’ve never played the game 7-up. It sounds fun! Is it fun? And I think school has started in our areas, but since I don’t go I’m not sure. Also I love mixing up workouts; jump-roping is always an intense workout.

Our schools don’t start until next Tuesday but Freddy and Katie both go to their orientation today at their high school and middle schools so I get to drag them out of bed at an ungodly hour. It’s going to be interesting.
