Empty Fridge, Wild Fig & M&M’s (WIAW)

 

You would think that with all of this free time on my hands since my son is away at sleep away camp that I would have my posts well written and finished in advance. Not the case right now, not the case at all.

I made myself such a list of things to do during this time that he’s away that free time, extra time and down time isn’t a thing at the moment. I must say that it’s a great feeling though to be getting things done, especially the things that need to be done for the Bar Mitzvah!

I miss my little boy though. I go to make his bed in the morning at my usual make the bed time but his bed is already made. And at night, it’s a little weird that he isn’t here bouncing a ball against the wall but I am refreshing the camp website photo albums so often (wait so this is where my free time is, busy spent refreshing pictures) and I see him smiling and having a blast at camp so I am happy.

Anyway, the food. It’s What I Ate Wednesday which means we discuss what I ate so let’s discuss what I ate yesterday.

Breakfast:

I am terrible about taking the early morning pre-run breakfast pictures lately but you can trust me when I say I had my usual half of a banana mashed into a really small amount of oatmeal with coffee. And a few glasses of water.

I actually slept a little later so I ate a little later which meant I had to run a little later in order to digest.

8 miles total with 5 miles of fartleks.

My post-run breakfast was lacking in the berries department because I cleaned out my fridge in such a serious way (scrubbing drawers and shelves per my list of things to accomplish) that I wasn’t left with much food.

In fact, my refrigerator is so empty that it looks like a bachelor lives in my house, not a runner who needs to eat every two hours.

I added Skoop B Strong and some peanut butter to my oatmeal after taking this picture.

Lunch:

I really didn’t know what I wanted to eat for lunch but I didn’t have much to choose from so it was sort of easy.

I found wild shrimp in my freezer so that was exciting since I didn’t even know it was there. I do not eat much fish at all which is my standard line every several months when I share a picture of a meal containing fish. I like the wild shrimp from Trader Joe’s but they don’t always have it in stock.

I made a really quick stir fry using the wild shrimp, roasted cauliflower and broccoli over spinach. I used Island Soyaki as the sauce and the sodium content is perfect for me especially after a sweaty summer run. I must keep my salt intake high right now or my electrolytes are an unbalanced mess.

Dinner:

I haven’t had Wild Fig in what feels like forever so yesterday was as good a day as any to stop in for a salad since I was in the area.

Dessert:

We ended up at Party City last night to grab a few things like M&M’s from the candy section. I made such a good mix too! Mega M&M’s, Crispy, Pretzel and Dark Chocolate. M&M’s will always be one of my most favorite candies.

      I tried to leave a comment on your post today but it kept freezing! I will try again a bit later…I know what you mean about shopping without the kids, whenever my son comes along, he adds another $20 to the bill

    I love peanut butter m’n’m’s! And we just got a huge thing of Jelly Belly’s from Costco last week after hiking in the mountains. Wild Fig does look really good. I love places where you can construct a delicious salad. I hope all the Bar Mitzvah planning keeps ‘humming along!’ 🙂

    Wow they upload pictures from camp on their website? Summer camps are so different from the way they used to be when I went haha I’m trying to find the new s’mores m&ms everywhere but I haven’t had any luck yet. I haven’t gone to the grocery store at all this week and I’m running low, but I just need to get through lunch tomorrow so I guess I’ll survive until I get back haha

    So much to comment on here!
    Doesn’t Party City have the BEST candy for cheap? I stop there all too often!
    Fridge is SO empty because my son is gone and my daughter isn’t a foodie like he is!! He comes back Saturday after 6 weeks and I will have to stock up again.
    Last night we had our final dinner in CA at the Dana Point Harbor—Grilled Salmon on spinach salad—so so good—love me some fresh fish:) Your salad looks AAAHMAZING!!

    Remember back in the day when we actually used to get bored??! I can’t even remember the last time I felt that way. And I’m not 100% sure if this is the case anymore, but I don’t think I can eat M&Ms because of my allergies. We have Smarties up here in Canadaland, but I totally don’t think they’re the same thing.

    I bet it felt so amazing to clean out the fridge. I know it did for me especially since it was so dirty. I did it right when we got back from vacation so it was practically empty. The timing was perfect. I’m glad your son is having a blast. I think it’s fantastic you can see pictures from the day.

    I’m still swooning over that salad.
