Hi! I feel like we haven’t spoken in forever. How’s the long weekend going? I love that tomorrow is July 4th. Monday holidays are the best holidays!
I am planning to run the Bellmore Striders Independence Day Run tomorrow morning. It’s a four mile race that I have been meaning to run each year since running it back on July 4th in 2012 but never did. Tomorrow is the day though!
That’s my blonde ponytail crossing the finish line in 2012.
I am looking forward to running this race for the second time even though it doesn’t start until 8:30 am which is late when I think about the weather. It’s hot for me by then but I will give it my best effort.
Anyway, my workouts this week were slightly different since we were away at Hershey Park for a few days.
While I did go to the Fitness Center both mornings of our trip, the amount of walking we did and time spent on our feet while in Hershey felt like more of a workout than my actual workouts!
Monday – Yoga/7 Miles/Pure Barre Tone in 10
I can’t start my mornings without Yoga For Runners: Pre-Run. Not a bad habit to have, right?
7 miles fairly easy. It wasn’t humid so I felt myself able to run a little bit faster than I have been.
Pure Barre Tone in 10: Arms & Abs. I usually do a longer Pure Barre workout on Mondays but I have been cutting back for a bit to avoid any hip issues.
Tuesday – 8 Miles
I got in a great run before leaving for Hershey! 2 mile warm up + 3 x 2 minutes intervals + cool down
Wednesday – Hotel Gym
I really liked the fitness center at our hotel. We stayed at the Hershey Lodge (more about the Hershey Lodge a little later this week) and our room was relatively close to the fitness center which was perfect.
I don’t remember exactly what I did but I know I ran a bit on the treadmill, used the elliptical machine and took advantage of the weights. There were tons of people in the gym with me too! Some even brought their lap tops and got down to business with insanity workouts. I realized that I could have brought my laptop down to the gym too to complete a Pure Barre workout but I didn’t feel like it. When I am away, as much as I keep up a workout routine, I don’t always feel like keeping up the exact same workout routine.
Thursday – Hotel Gym/Yoga
3 miles on the treadmill following my easy run on the treadmill workout.
Friday – Pure Barre Studio Series & 3 Miles
My hip has felt 100% so I was able to do a regular Pure Barre routine again! I love the Studio Series. It’s 45 minutes in length and targets every body part.
Note to self: Running after 7:00 am in the summer when humidity is high is way too late for me.
Saturday – 13 Miles
I struggled with this run. It wasn’t humid which immediately felt nice as soon as I stepped outside my front door yet still, after a few miles, I was hot and bothered.
Sunday – Rest
I have to pick up my number today for the race tomorrow. The pick up is at Runner’s Edge which means I may check out the running shoes. I don’t know why but I feel like I may be due for a new pair again really soon. I burn through my running shoes so quickly!
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!

Who else is running a race tomorrow?
Are you acclimated to the summer weather yet during your runs or are you struggling a bit still?
Good luck on your race tomorrow! The humidity here gets me a bit but overall it’s still mild enough to not need to acclimate. I do need more short sleeve running shirts because it’s too cool for tank tops!

good luck at your race!

We did a family long weekend in Hershey last year. So much chocolate all day long! And we were typical tourists and made our own Hershey Bars:). Happy 4th!

we made the chocolate bars the last time we were at Hershey, it’s so fun, right? my son had asked to do it again this trip but then we forgot lol
A 4 mile race sounds perfect! I actually am feeling a bit more motivated to step up my running a bit, maybe I’m getting acclimated to summer or maybe it’s just been too nice of a summer so far 🙂 good luck!

Have fun at the race tomorrow! I do a turkey trot but would love a local Fourth race especially if there were fireworks.

and I would like to do a turkey trot this year!
You’re probably already finished your race now. I can’t wait to hear how it went!!! I used the resort treadmill for the first couple of days we were in Mexico but it wasn’t properly air conditioned. IT WAS SO GROSS. I hurt my back and couldn’t run for the rest of the time anyway, so it was fine.

I read your post early this morning from my phone (which means I didn’t comment but I wanted to, I have to go back to it) but I hope you are feeling better! and the cocksackey virus is the worst! I’ve had it twice, awful! I hope you guys had a great trip aside from the illness/injury stuff. that was a crazy story! And the race went well! just really hot here!
