A few things to note about my week in workouts…
My Appetite:
My appetite felt off the charts early in the week. It’s quite possible that my body noticed a return to my usual running after about ten days of reducing mileage/cross-training. Thankfully both my foot issue and hip issue quickly resolved themselves so that I can run normally but man, runger is real!
My Hip:
I am almost 100% positive that whatever I was feeling in my hip stemmed from some of the lower body exercises in Pure Barre. I have been keeping the Pure Barre workouts light, choosing the tone in 10 workouts more than anything else and focusing on the upper body workouts instead of lower body most of the time.
Summer Running:
Last week I wrote about Surviving Summer as Runner and last year I wrote about Adjusting To Warm Weather Running but the truth is, running in the summer will never feel as comfortable for me as running in the colder temps.
It’s a totally different climate so even as I adjust, my runs will never feel the same as they do in the fall and winter. The humidity and warmer temperatures are tough although I will take it for the early sunrises. 🙂
I Like To Do Something Different:
Running will always be my go-to workout and favorite form of exercise but I also like to do something different. I chose a gym day on Friday even though the humidity was lower and the sun was shining because I felt like cross-training. I was in the mood for a good indoor workout on the elliptical machine mixed with free weights in the air conditioning. It felt great, I worked up a nice sweat and really appreciated doing something different.
Doing something different also helps me to look forward to my next run rather than start to feel burned out from my running path and usual routine.
Quick note: Yoga For Runners: Pre-Run was my go-to yoga practice each morning. It is my favorite 20 minute yoga practice so as much as I considered alternating with a few other yoga practices, I just didn’t want to deviate. So I didn’t.
Monday – Yoga/5 Miles/Pure Barre
It was the hottest, most humid morning by far for me this season but after a few miles, I didn’t feel the weather as much.
Post-Run: Pure Barre Tone in 10: Full Body.
Tuesday – Yoga & 8 Miles (8:11 pace)
It was overcast yet super warm and humid. After a 2 mile warm up, I ran some fartleks for a few miles to ease back to speed work.
Wednesday – Pure Barre/3.5 Miles Easy
I tried returning to my favorite Pure Barre Mile High Series which is 35 minutes in length BUT I felt the front of hip as soon as we reached the thigh portion so I won’t be doing this part of the workout for a bit.
Thursday – Yoga/8 Miles
I spoke about this run in Friday’s post. I attempted my 8 mile tempo interval workout but really wasn’t feeling it.
Friday – Yoga/Gym Day/Pure Barre
- 20 minutes elliptical
- free weights (for arms)
- 20 minutes elliptical
Pure Barre Tone in 10: back and cool down
I really like this Pure Barre Tone in 10 workout because it incorporates the bridge pose.
Saturday – 2 hour run/14 miles?
MapMyRun is acting a little weird this week. I am pretty sure it is calculating each mile a bit short. Although I am fairly certain these paces are not accurate (I think I was a bit slower per mile but not sure), this run felt terrific and flew by. I ran 2 hours even which put me somewhere over 13 miles but I really do not think 14 miles even though MapMyRun said over 14 miles.
Sunday – Pure Barre Pure Results
My one year subscription to Pure Barre’s Pure Results Online Workout with a focus on the seat ends this week!
I would like to get this workout in one last time this morning (modified to avoid any hip issues) as I am not sure that I will renew it or select a new online workout.
If you missed my Pure Barre Pure Results Review, you can read it here. It’s actually one of my most popular posts!

Do you use MapMyRun?
Yesterday it was 80 degrees in the mountain town we visited and that felt too hot! Next week it looks like summer arrived and I will have to adjust to running in the humidity.

humidity is the worst!
I live in Vancouver, BC so fortunately we don’t get a ton of humidity and while hot, definitely not as hot as where I grew up in Toronto! But I still try and get out a bit earlier in the day to avoid it.
I have never used Map my Run during my run! But sometimes after to track and remember my routes.

ugh, humidity is the worst! I also try to run early before it gets too bad!
I split my time between D.C. and Williamsburg, VA. I thought D.C. was humid until I got to Williamsburg. It is actually a swamp down there. Like a good day is about 50% humidity. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even really notice it anymore until it’s over 70% humidity. MapMyRun has been acting weird for me too. The “current pace” is always somewhere between 17-20 min/mile, no matter what my actual pace is. I’m back to the Nike running app since it seems much more accurate to me.

yeah it’s super humid here most of the summer, hopefully I adjust soon! I may try the nike app, I hate when mapmyrun doesn’t work right! it’s been a few weeks of not working correctly.
Map my run is good for awhile until it stops working, which happened to me! Was hoping to at least get in some yoga today but the whole morning went by with nothing so not sure now. Either way I want to be outside today with this gorgeous weather.

I may need to try a new running app if mapmyrun doesn’t fix itself
I don’t have any races scheduled before my tune up half for the NYC MArathon, which is the Pamby Half in Ridgefield CT in October. I don’t like doing summer races because it’s just too hot to run hard!
I’ve dusted off my garmin ever since mapmyrun gave me a couple 4 and 5 minute miles lol. I still use it 1 or 2 times a week but don’t trust it. I may try out strava. I have gotten better about really not caring about paces (which was why I stopped using my garmin) but sometimes it takes forever for satellite reception which is why I enjoy the running apps.

yeah I don’t know why mapmyrun goes into funks like that! today it worked for me normally, who knows!
