TOL – Chocolate Covered Apples, Taper & New Shoes

Thinking-Out-Loud

chocolate covered apple

I had this amazingly chocolatey chocolate covered apple the other night. It was so delicious that I think it’s on my list of best chocolate-covered apples ever.

Why I loved it:

  • It had a super thick coating of good tasting chocolate.
  • The chocolate sprinkles were a really nice addition in flavor and texture.
  • There was no caramel involved so nothing got chewy or sticky – just straight up chocolate and apple.

Chocolate covered apples are sort of my thing, in case you didn’t know. This one from Kilwin’s last summer was great and not that messy from the caramel.

Moving on to more randomness…

My biggest pet peeve in life at the moment is when I email tech support and they reply back with their forum links on related topics. Like, really? What has happened to customer service? I don’t want links, I want support in the form of a personable response that addresses my specific question. I want personalized service! I want to feel heard! I don’t want to do the work to find my answer, I want you to answer my question and help me!

Why is it that I can leave my laundry in the dryer for days on end but I can’t handle knowing there are clean dishes in my dishwasher. Just the thought of clean dishes sitting in my dishwasher makes me twitch until I empty it.

One food I am always running out of lately? Eggs.

One food I used to love yet now makes me nauseous when I try to eat it? Barbecue sauce.

Taper weeks don’t usually bother me but the crazy thoughts are starting up.

I think I am in the mood to switch up my pre-run breakfast from oatmeal to cinnamon raisin toast with mashed banana and peanut butter. Maybe some jelly too.

Ohhh, a French toast bagel with jelly sounds perfect for breakfast before the race!

I love my lululemon Run Inspire Crops but you know, I could really use a pair of running shorts. Maybe I will get a new pair and wear them for the race if it’s hot.

Now is not the time to make these sorts of changes and decisions, which I know and I won’t, yet I couldn’t hold off on a new pair of Energy Boosts.

Adidas Energy Boosts

Uh huh. Just like that. My Boosts burned out on me. After careful discussion with Laura to determine if I did in fact need new running shoes for the race, I rushed to Runner’s Edge the same way I rush to PM Pediatrics when my son is sick at night.

Help me! I need a new pair of Energy Boosts right away for Sunday’s Half Marathon!

I will get two short runs in the new shoes before Sunday and I am really not worried about them not being comfortable. In fact, Hollie just wrote a great post addressing some secrets about buying running shoes which talks about the whether or not running shoes actually need time to break in.

Did you hear about the 12-year old girl who was running her first 5k and accidently found herself running a half marathon? Article here.

In my mind, I think less about the first runs as a “break in” process and more as a chance to make sure that they fit your feet. I think you will know within the first run if you are going to get blisters (shoes may be mass produced, but there can still be discrepancies).

yeah, I stopped getting my extra pairs from the outlet – on more than one occasion my boosts from the outlets did not feel as good as usual pairs. not really sure if coincidence or what.

Don’t change your breakfast – lol! I always want to change things while tapering, it’s like a naughty runners instinct or something 🙂 Drew was just asking me to make chocolate covered apples so you must have sent him some vibes. I am running out of eggs like crazy lately and I think the matzo brei has something to do with it, that and the egg salad I made.

I am still annoyed that my son didn’t want matzoh brei! if you want to make drew the chocolate apples, I can tell you how I did with the layer of blended dates underneath in place of caramel.

A chocolate covered apple sounds good, because the caramel does make it a bit harder to chew. You’re making me want to dip some apples in chocolate. 🙂 Isn’t taper week an amazing and a nervous feeling at the same time?

I just got the shoes I will wear for my race at the end of the month. I have yet to run in them but they were needed (don’t run trails in white race shoes). I don’t really like covered apples actually because I’ve never had a great experience with them. The apple isusually too tart and I take a bite and everything falls off. I’d rather eat an apple and dip it in chocolate or something. I hope you have a great race!

Right before you mentioned Hollie’s post, I was going to say shoes don’t actually have to be broken in anymore which is really nice. Technology has changed a lot making it a little easier to get away with that stuff. Taper crazies are real. You make me want to go to Kilwins now. It’s been a few weeks…

I don’t even know – like, all of a sudden, the kind I buy is making me nauseous! ha. Sometimes I have them slice up the chocolate apples which defeats the purpose of eating it on a stick lol

I am in serious need of a new pair of running shoes, but I need to find a new to me model, since I hate the changes that were made to the new model of the shoe I wear now. So, I just have to suck it up through race day & then head to the running store.

I change my breakfast once a month or so, I change it up for a week, regret it, because I love my overnight oats & then go back to my tried & true breakfast.

You’ll be fine with the Boost honestly. I’m so sad because they ended up being too narrow for my feet. I did like the feel though. Oh and good luck this weekend!

Yay new running shoes! I love few other things as much as a new pair of runners- that smell is in a whole other universe! I’m flirting with buying a pair of adidas ultra boost but feel bad about spending that much money on a pair of shoes, but I’m expecting to get over that soon 😀

    Have a wonderful race!
I only like applesauce. Raw apples make my stomach hurt.
The only mean I switch up is lunch. Breakfast and dinner are always the same. Except I do vary the cereal I have for b-fast and the flavor of my gluten-free pancakes for dinner 🙂 I never get sick of it! (yet)

I rotate through so many shoes that feel like I haven’t replaced them in forever! So while leaving laundry in the dryer makes me twitch, I can leave dishes in the dishwasher for days! I will actually hand wash other stuff if I don’t feel like emptying it.

Caramel covered apples are my thing; the stickier the better. I’ll even take them covered in white chocolate too.

Did I tell you I’ve been eating oatmeal for breakfast lately? Who am I?!

Good luck with the race. I know you’ll rock it.
