Oh hi. Happy Valentine’s Day!
So many chocolate truffles to choose from at Godiva!
Before you go eat your Valentine’s chocolate, let’s take a look at my workouts from the week.
Monday – 3 Miles treadmill & 20 Minutes Elliptical
I was not feeling up to a major sweaty workout. Even with Sunday off, I think last week’s miles and Saturday’s fast paced finish to my long run left my muscles tired. I skipped Pure Barre and went with an easy 3 miles on the treadmill which felt nice and comfortable BUT BORING so I switched to the elliptical to finish up my time in the gym.
This was my hungry day which I wrote about on Wednesday. Click here if you missed it.
Tuesday – 7.50 Miles
I felt much more normal and ready for a good treadmill run this morning.
Miles 1 – 3 easy @ 6.3 – 7.0
Miles 4 – 7 harder effort @ 6.8 – 7.7 plus cool down
I always gravitate to the treadmill closest to the mirror. Do you have a favorite treadmill in your gym?
Wednesday – Pure Barre Mile High DVD & 5 Miles
I was more than ready for Pure Barre today and thrilled to get outside for a run!
Thursday – 8 Miles
I woke up thinking I would brave the cold and run outdoors until I looked outside and saw a coating of snow on the ground. There went that idea – way too slippery. I don’t remember much about this run other than I finished the last 3 miles around an 8:00 min/mile pace.
Later in the morning – Yoga For Runners: Pre-Run
Friday – Pure Barre Studio Series DVD & 30 Minutes Running
It was around 16 degrees but no wind or ice on the ground so for sure I was running outside! I wasn’t cold at all, although I wasn’t outside for that long. Beyond 30 minutes, I may have started to feel it.
Saturday – 14 Miles
It was very cold (16 degrees? 18 degrees?) but I wanted to run outside before it got even colder – temps were dropping and it was going to get real windy.
I am so glad that I did! I had my best run maybe ever?
If MapMyRun was correct, I finished 13.1 miles around 1:43:30 which is almost 2 minutes faster than my PR.
I think running in such cold weather kept me going fast without realizing it. I didn’t even feel cold while I was out there thanks to several layers, a hat, scarf and the best running mittens ever created.
I don’t think lululemon still sells these fluff over mittens but if you can find them, they are worth every penny.
Sunday – No running, maybe yoga
In case you missed it:
I shared Part Two of Finding Balance Between Our Diets & Workouts on Tuesday and a fun New Treadmill Workout on Friday! Suzy tried the workout and really liked it. Let me know if you try it 🙂
And since it’s so cold at the moment, it’s worth revisiting my most recent winter weather workout favorites post! I definitely needed these essentials yesterday.

Is it beyond frigid by you this weekend? Did you run outside or indoors?
Is today a rest day or workout day?
What kind of chocolate do you plan on eating today?
I did my longer run on Friday and then yesterday I stayed indoors and did yoga. The wind just sounded so crazy! I am hoping to get out for a few miles today. It’s supposed to be 15 degrees later this morning but I think right now it’s 5 but feels like 0. Then we are supposed to get all sorts of snow/ice over the next few days! Ugh..is it spring yet?!

Every day we are closer to spring. It can only be a few more weeks of cold winter weather, right?
You really did have an incredible run! I bet it’s the treadmill making you stronger. My long run felt like maybe my slowest ever but at least it’s done. We woke up to frozen pipes upstairs today so really annoyed with this cold!

Yeah, I think the treadmill is playing a role for me! It usually does somehow help me to run faster outside with less effort.
Yesterday was -2 with a wind chill taking us to -30. I kept it indoors yesterday and thankfully today is crosstraining so that means gym as well. I love running outside, but the gym has been calling my name this week. Not sorry, I missed my gym buddies and caught up on the news. I made a batch of butterfingers on Thursday and I still have a few left so I’ll eat those and stock up on cheap candy tomorrow 🙂

I am so tired of the treadmill that it’s been nice to get outside again. I am hoping the weather continues to warm up after today’s little bit of snow.
Your long run was incredible—congrats! It’s been raining here all weekend and my long run on Friday was in the rain. Today is a rest day and I’m going to obsess over finding the right new pair of running shoes. I tried on a bunch yesterday and hate the new Pure Flows.

Ugh new running shoe issues are not fun! I still recommend the boosts but you would have to test them out to see if they were a good fit for you. I think I need a new pair of alternate shoes for my easy runs and that won’t be an easy decision either!
It is FREEZING here in NYC, literally 0 degrees right now but I am heading out on a short run anyway before our plans for the holiday (involving brunch, sweet potato fries, chocolate, and some other activity…my BF knows me well!)

So cold yesterday! I couldn’t believe it when the tv said it was -1 out there
I am so impressed you ran outside! It was in the negatives yesterday with the windchill and there was absolutely no way I was running outside. 11 miles on the treadmill … Gotta do what you gotta do!
I will be eating all the chocolate today. And the chocolate I don’t eat, will be chopped up and baked into the cookies I will be making (and eating) later 🙂
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Yeah, that’s real cold! Negatives I can’t run in, at least we have the treadmill as the option for those days!
Ugh it was so frigid yesterday and today in D.C. so I had to run my 9 miler indoors yesterday and my 3 miles inside today. I already had chocolate protein oatmeal for breakfast this morning and I have some leftover Cold Stone in the freezer–dark chocolate ice cream with Oreos and PB cups!

Ohh that coldstone combo sounds good!
Happy Valentine’s Day. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go back and look at those truffles some more. 🙂

Great long run. I always find that I run quicker than I realise when it’s cold, like yesterday when I did my long run outside, I felt like I was going super slow but actually it turned out to be one of my faster long runs…I’m not complaining 🙂
