This was the first weekend in months (maybe since September?) that my son slept out the entire weekend. I know I mentioned it recently (in this post) that we stopped sticking to a strict every other weekend schedule to be more flexible with my son’s plans as he gets older.
It was so weird for me at first to not have him home either night! I missed him and really hated waking up at 2:00 am to realize he wasn’t asleep in his bed.
But then I got used to the quiet and enjoyed the short break from hearing about the poor choices of food in my pantry and moved on with my weekend just fine. 🙂
Anyway, let’s see if I accomplished everything on my to do list for the weekend…
Long Run Outdoors – Yes!
I talked about my long run a bit more in yesterday’s workout recap but I will say again, it was so nice to be outside!
My friend said she saw me running from her window and that I looked “refreshed” and appeared to be having a good run. At which point I informed her that I changed my shoes after 3 miles and my pace was all over the place but yes, I felt refreshed to be outside.
Haircut – Yes!
I cut two inches and immediately felt better. I am definitely due for some highlights but for some reason, I feel like seeing how long I can stretch it until my next appointment.
Of course I did the go-to-the-bathroom-before-paying-to-see-how-it-looks-in-private thing. I needed to readjust how she blew it out because my hair was hanging in the wrong direction.
I don’t know if you can tell but I can tell from my face that I was out of it on Saturday. Some months my period takes a lot out of me. I didn’t think this was going to be one of those months and I certainly can’t say it is as debilitating as it was when I was younger (not even close) but still, I was drained and feeling rather bleh.
Red Mango – No but I had Cold Stone so that counts for something!
They were out of the chocolate dipped waffles bowls but I stayed calm and just had them add cookie dough to my ice cream (well, frozen yogurt) instead.
Running Shoe Update:
I ended up skipping Pure Barre yesterday morning in favor of going for a run in my new pair of Brooks Glycerin 13’s. I liked them more than I did on Saturday but I just don’t know if they are the shoe yet. They are definitely comfortable but heavier than my Boosts and I notice it.
For now they reside in their box, they have to earn the spot by the front door.
I emailed a bit with Hollie about my shoe issue; she suggested that I do give the Glycerin’s a try, and if I am not thrilled, attempt the Energy Boosts in the next size. Thanks Hollie!
I do love my new Thorlo Experia socks though! That is for sure.
They are thinner than a traditional Thorlo sock but have delicious padding at the heel and under the toes (did I just say delicious? I must be hungry).
Super comfortable in all of my sneakers (because yes, I tested them out), they don’t make my feet sweaty, stay in place and definitely give me nice cushion without bulk in my shoe. I need several more pairs now!
And because onion rings always have a spot in my posts, here’s last night’s Portobello mushroom salad from the East Bay diner with onion rings on top.
Even though I planned out our dinners for the week, I always welcome the chance to eat out (and not cook).
Have a great Monday!

3 things you did this weekend?
What was for dinner last night?
Where do you keep your running shoes? By front door or in your closet? In the box or out of the box?
I keep most of my running shoes in the basement closet (near my workout stuff) because there are just too many to keep by the front door. But if it was raining or muddy I will leave them by the door or in the garage to dry. This weekend I ran on the treadmill, did a strength workout in my basement, and went for a walk because it was so warm yesterday! I can literally hear the snow melting (from it dripping down the drain) and I am hopeful it will be mostly gone in the next few days.

It looks like the snow should be just about gone by Friday. It’s so warm outside today! Almost 60!
Saturday was the perfect day with a long run and haircut! I’ve noticed over the past year or so that my period wipes me out more than it used to. Then again maybe all the interruptions with the 3 kids made me forget what it was like to begin with! In any case, I hear you on that!

I just think I have a lower tolerance for pms and period weeks these days. I must be getting old.
Running shoes are in a shoe shelf thing that is near our door. I try to keep it organized. Well, I say I try but that is a lie. We all know that is a lie.

I try to keep the shoes at the front door organized but my son always messes it up!
You and Michele are seriously twins this weekend! Love your haircut as well 🙂 I agree that Glycerins are super heavy and they don’t work at all for me. I hope you find a pair that you like!

Right?! So funny Michele and I both got our haircuts. Too bad we don’t go to the same place we could have done it together.
Ugh I need a haircut so bad. I’ve taken to keeping my hair up in a messy bun just so that I don’t have to deal with it, but I’m thinking I’ll have to get it done soon because it’s looking shaggy. And that’s actually what always bothered me about the Glycerins as well — they felt a little heavy and bulky. Hopefully you find something that feels good soon!

Yeah, too heavy coming from my boosts. Otherwise they were definitely comfortable, just not for me.
Your haircut looks so pretty! I love that feeling of getting a few inches off and feeling lighter, especially because my hair’s a waist length mess right now. I keep running shoes and rain boots by the door, even though Charlie always makes a mess of them there.

oh wow, waist length – that’s long!
OMG I don’t even know the last time I had Cold Stone and that makes me super sad. I freaking love that place. Maybe I need to treat myself this weekend! My running shoes always stay by the front door. Last night’s dinner was crockpot chicken curry (a household fave), and I’m excited I don’t have to cook for the next few nights because we have so many leftovers.

You definitely need to treat yourself this weekend!
I love the Thorlo Experia socks, I have 6 pairs and they’re all I wear for running unless I want to go compression that day.
I definitely need to go get more pairs today.
Seems everyone is getting a hair cut. Maybe this week I finally will it has been several months.

I might have to try out those socks. I have been having some pretty stubborn pain at the ball of my foot right near my toes and after wearing my more cushioned balega socks the past few runs it has subsided significantly. Hoping my feet just need the cushioning and it all goes away!

I definitely recommend these Thorlo Experia socks. Really comfortable and have the nice padding up by the toes
I need to change up my shoes too. I’m stuck on the Nimbus and I really want to try something lighter. Glycerine is a lot like the Nimbus. I’m curious about the Pure Flows!

I used to wear the nimbus! You may like the glyercins if you are used to the nimbus.
