The winter months make me want to cuddle my feet in Uggs, slippers and comfy socks. Have you seen these cozy looking slipper socks at Target? I think I need them!
Instead of ordering pizza Friday night for my son and his friends, I picked up a pizza from Fresh Market during the day to heat up at dinner time. The boys LOVED it (I knew they would, one of my best friends gets this pizza for the kids all of the time) and I saved money because it’s much cheaper than ordering a pie from the pizza place.
I needed a big bowl of every roasted vegetable available at the Whole Foods Food Bar. And oh, Whole Food’s mashed sweet potatoes, which I took a dollop of for this bowl, are the best I have ever had.
I should have bought this Be Nice mug at Target. I think it would serve as a great reminder for me throughout the day as I sip my coffee and struggle to tolerate people.
I am a nice person, I swear! I just have a really low tolerance for most humans and their nonsense.
Until recently, the last time I had been to PF Chang’s was back in the year 2000 around the time that I got engaged. Even though PF Chang’s had opened a nice new location near me a couple of years ago, I just didn’t care to go BUT NOW it is slowly becoming one of my favorites.
This sushi roll is at the top of my sushi favorites list.
The Buddha feast is made with me in mind – lots of veggies, sauce on the side for dipping and fluffy brown rice. They offer quinoa for an additional charge but I always go with the brown rice. I eat enough quinoa at home, I don’t need to pay extra when I like brown rice and have no reason to avoid the grain.
I needed this slice of chocolate cake. That’s right, needed. After an awesome long run Saturday morning, chocolate cake referred to as the “chocolate wall” on the menu becomes a necessary part of my running recovery. Gosh I felt so good after eating this!
Since there is no school today and the Islanders were playing a late afternoon game yesterday, I swallowed my childish pride and took the train to Brooklyn to see my second regular season home game at the Barclays Center.
I am just not good with change okay? I have been trying to be a big girl about it but it’s hard. When you spend 30 years of your life attending games 10 minutes from your house at a building that once felt like your second home and now have to take a train (and sometimes change at Jamaica!) to see your team play in what feels like a foreign place, it will take time to adjust. And I am not even trying to adjust, I just sit and complain. Actually, stand and complain, I couldn’t even get a seat on the train.
Half Marathon Weather Watch:
Of course they are tracking our first winter storm of the season for this weekend. Of course they are. I have heard anything from 3-5 inches to a good foot of snow approaching the New York area by Friday night.
And of course I keep texting Michele with the weather updates just so she can freak along with me. Although, I am totally okay with not running this race. I would just rather know in advance that it’s not going to happen for me rather than have to wonder when I should get into the city to pick up my number and if I even need to do so.
Ugh!

3 things you did over the weekend?
What’s on the workout agenda for today?
I’m not even going to freak out about weather until mid week. Probably 🙂 And to have to take the train is definitely a bummer! At least you made up for it with lots of awesome food. Next time I’m in Whole Foods I’ll have to check out those mashed sweet potatoes, yum 🙂

Definitely try the mashed potatoes. I am thinking they used a lot of maple syrup because they really were so so good and the ingredients list didn’t involve anything other than maple syrup I think. It was a super short uneventful ingredients list but so so good.
OMG, that cake! Carrot cake is my first choice all the time, but I love chocolate too. Especially with chocolate cream and chocolate frosting

Chocolate frosting is the best
Oh no, that is very stressful about the race! I just saw that we might get snow in Baltimore on Fri/Sat so I guess that would mean it would get to you guys shortly after. I agree, its better to know in advance!

I definitely know how much a hassle it would be to go ALL the way to Brooklyn when you are used to going to the Coliseum. I don’t think I will ever go to another Islanders game for that reason. One of my favorite parts of the game was tailgating in the parking lot!:)

And thank you for knowing exactly how I feel about going to Brooklyn! It’s a major hassle, it’s not the same and there is certainly no tailgating any more unless you do it in a train parking lot lol
That kind of cake is my favorite kind of cake. It looks SO good! Love those fudgy layers 🙂 Hope that the weather clears up for you this weekend! The weather people (at least in Pittsburgh) never get it right so hopefully they’re wrong this time and it’ll be sunny and nice out!

Fudgy layers are definitely the best. My favorite kind of dessert 🙂
Definitely waiting until Saturday to do number pickup instead of trying to somehow rush there after work and get home really late…

I really don’t know when I will pick it up or what will be with the weather! If it snows more than a few inches Saturday, I doubt the roads will be okay enough for me to drive in early Sunday morning. Ugh
Need those socks. They remind me of the “footens” that I used to live in that I got from Old Navy–they were mitten socks but I called them footens. I was freaking out a little bit about the weather for the Phoenix Marathon bc there was chance of rain and I didn’t have a lightweight rain jacket, but otherwise, I try not to think about any of it until later.

I definitely need the socks for sure. I am trying not to think about the snow but it’s pretty clear we will have a storm so in my mind, I am not really thinking that I have a race to run. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised but doesn’t look like it!
Besides pancakes, my favorite cake is probably carrot cake. I just love cream cheese frosting. Bonus points if the cake also has pineapple in the batter (hometown favorite). Three things I did this weekend were edit photos, run my first speed workout since my fall and make chickpea brownies. I love those socks from Target! I would never take them off!

I really need to get the socks!
I waited at P.F. Chang’s in college and that chocolate cake was heavenly!!! Good choice!
Three things I did over the weekend:
-Visited Chelsea Market for my first time ever
-Ate donuts at Dough!
-Finally got a haircut!!
Good weekend in NYC!

So fun! Glad you had a great time here! Those donuts are so good, I am pretty sure I have pictures of them in a post from last year!
That cake looks amazing! I love ice cream cake. I am not really a cake person, but paired with ice cream I can manage
And I don’t love ice cream but that all changes with ice cream is paired with cake. Such a good combo.
I saw the weather prediction and ugh so annoying for all signed up. I agree it is what it is but having to wait and see is definitely not enjoyable.
That cake makes me want cake. But, I only like the icing. I have an amazing bakery by me and always get a couple cupcakes or gigantic slice of cake just to eat the icing. Luckily the bf is the opposite so we are a good dessert match!

the icing is my favorite part too! I dig around the cake layers just for the icing lol
That chocolate cake. Amazing. I think I said this on instagram, but my rainbow cake is your chocolate fudge cake. It’s perfection. So bummed for you on the weather. That is such a pain! But safety does come first so I think you have the right mindset for it.

The weather is the worst especially since it hasn’t snowed more than inch so far this winter! Oh well, out of my control I suppose.
That’s a great mug, I think I could do one of those too…it’s the little reminders that help out 😉 Savage looking chocolate cake too, right up my alley! Chocolate fudge is such a classic & my favourite. No workout today, resting after yesterday’s 18 miler 🙂

Oh.my.GOD. Please tell me that chocolate cake was peanut-free!!! That’s literally my definition of heaven right there. Either that or Black Forest cake. Either way, it’s gotta be chocolate.

They’re tracking snow here too and have been for days, and it hasn’t been nearly as bad as predicting so maybe you’ll be ok. At least I hope so.
That cake is everything. My Hubby would devour that thing. I would devour the veggies and brown rice and then go for a nice sugar filled, frosting laden, fruity dessert. I would totally sneak a bite of the Hubby’s cake though.
