Thinking-Out-Loud

How do you feel about Facebook’s time hop feature? Like, sometimes I love it and laugh and reshare the post and then sometimes I see things I would like to forget.

Facebook reminded me this week though that a year ago, right now, we were fa la la-ing in Disney World and I was basically in heaven eating my favorite chocolate covered apple with marshmallow ears in Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom Chocolate Covered Apple

We love Disney, especially this time of year. It’s so festively fun that even if you don’t celebrate Christmas (which we don’t), you learn to feel the holiday spirit, even if Hanukkah has already come and gone.

While we won’t be in Disney this Christmas, we will be in Boston next week which we are getting really excited about. It’s a short little road trip adventure which means no flying which means pack as much peanut butter as you want (you know, in case of emergency) because there’s no airport security to tell me what I can and can’t travel with.

Did you see this toy list that every 80’s girl wanted for Christmas? I had every toy listed (gosh I miss my Barbie house!) except for Teddy Ruxbin which is still a sensitive issue if you must know the truth. I don’t even want to talk about it but you can be sure I will bring it up again today with my father who was in charge of the toy buying and for some reason, still left unexplained, he decided I didn’t need this talking teddy bear.

Only child syndrome at it’s finest right here.

I turned out okay, really I did. My son on the other hand, I don’t really know how he is going to turn out as it can’t be anything other than downhill from here now that he has decided that breakfast isn’t important.

In fact, he told me just the other morning on the ride to school as I tried to verbally force breakfast down his throat, “No one even eats breakfast anymore mom. I know, it starts something up in your metabolism or whatever but I am not hungry and like, no one I know eats in the morning.”

I do not know who this child is. He cannot be mine. Not hungry in the morning? What does that even feel like? I have never missed a breakfast in my life unless I was sick with a stomach bug.

I have tried making him smoothies for breakfast, even sharing my frozen blueberries and Skoop to trick him into drinking a meal. I have followed him to the car with English muffins covered in peanut butter and actual plates of waffles with syrup and banana.

And the syrup drips off of the plate onto the seat when he leaves the entire thing behind as he jumps out of the car. Don’t even ask, I need a car wash.

I have resorted to waffles in baggies too thinking how portably creative I am but he leaves it behind. It’s not like  the other kids can tell it’s a Trader Joe’s blueberry waffle I tell him but whatever, it’s a hopeless cause at the moment.

Luckily I don’t have to chase him down with breakfast for almost two weeks < – another reason I appreciate winter break.

I took out my new 2016 Erin Condren life planner last night because Amanda’s all gung ho about starting anew and it’s slowly rubbing off on me. I have been hanging tight to my 2015 Erin Condren notebook but I have decided to slowly start breaking this pretty new planner in anyway. I hate to start writing on the crisp clean pages — What if I make a mistake? Use the wrong color ink? I don’t want to ruin it yet!

I have always used a planner but lately I have been transitioning to electronic calendars so I can access everything from my phone in one place. I do miss having a place to write notes and lists and stuff, but I had an Erin Condren planner last year and didnt feel like I got my money’s worth because I didnt use it as much as I expected. It was a little heavy to carry in my bag all the time. Once we get an office set up at home I will probably keep some kind of notebook in there so jot things down, but right now I would lose anything like that!
That list of 80s gifts is too funny- is it just me or are some of those dolls kind of creepy looking now? I was obsessed with girl talk when I was little!

OMG I loved girl talk with the zit stickers lol. Some of those dolls are creepy, did you have Cricket the talking doll? I did and looking back, she might have been rather creepy too….The Erin Condren is bulky to tote if you are doing a lot of traveling and walking but otherwise, I love it. I have to use google calendar because I receive notifications that way from work but otherwise, I prefer paper.

Coffee comes immediately after I wake up! I have checked out coschedule but use buffer for AllSeated stuff, I think either are great for organizing and planning social media well in advance.

Too funny about the breakfast thing … He’ll come around eventually!

I used to live by my Outlook calendar at work (since all my todo’s would then also pop up on my iPhone). After quitting my job, I realized I had no way to keep tab of my social calendar so I bought this cute chalkboard wall decal on Amazon. Not exactly a planner … But does the job!

Cute planner! Last year I got the Plum Paper planner from Etsy and I really liked it! It’s a bit cheaper than Erin Condren’s but I think it’s just as cute. I think that when I was your son’s age I never ate breakfast either. I was just never hungry! Must be metabolism or something 😉 Now I’m hungry all the time!

I really want one of those planners! I have looked at them for several years but just can’t justify the cost when a $10 one does pretty much the same thing. Ugh, darn you mom brain and budget!

If you really want one and feel you would use it, I do think it’s worth it. The paper is a higher quality, the sections are so nicely broken down and its super sturdy. I had the notebook last year and would buy it again in a second.

I will say I never ate breakfast growing up – a combination of fighting my natural early bird tendencies and thus always having a headache on waking after too little sleep, the rush to get out the door to school with no time to do more than grab a Chewy bar, and the strains of an ED telling me to save the calories for later when I got older. But in college I started to become a breakfast person, since all my favorite foods are for breakfast anyway (I used to just eat eggs and pancakes for lunch and dinner!) and by now my friends know that even though I am awake and chirpy at 7am on a Sunday, you cannot approach me until I’ve had my breakfast 🙂

Have fun in Cape Cod, We used to go to Orleans all the time. I miss going there. I live in NJ and we are now in VA for the holidays but I love New England this time of year. I know what you mean about being hungry in the morning I am always famished in the morning. I recently learned that not everyone is and it truly depends on their biochemistry so don’t sweat it about your son. Happy Holidays
