In between obsessively following the weather forecast as it relates to tomorrow’s half marathon all week, I have been attempting to see the bright side — at least I don’t have my period, right?
I try so hard to schedule my races at the perfect time of the month for me but in reality, there’s never a perfect time. I cannot control the weather and I cannot control my cycle, I can just plan as best as possible and hope that all turns out well.
It turns out that tomorrow will be the driest day of the week (it’s been raining all week, some sort of Nor’Easter today followed by the possibility of hurricane stuff after tomorrow) but it will be windy, which is not something I enjoy but I will take it.
I have my clothes ready although I am not 100% sure yet what I will wear exactly. I’ve got my Lululemon rain jacket on standby along with my Runner’s World hat from last year’s Runner’s World Half & Festival just in case the rain from tonight lingers into tomorrow.
I find my Runner’s World hat inspiring as it reminds me that I ran three races in one weekend.

Instead of recapping my workouts on Sunday, I decided to share my taper workouts from the week today and then I will pop back in with a race recap by Monday.
I followed Lisa’s advice regarding what my taper week should look like almost perfectly. I just switched Tuesday and Wednesday around because of the weather.
Today is a rest day. I much prefer a rest day two days before and a short run the day before a race but I realized that skipping a workout today would be the best fit in my schedule this week.
I honestly don’t think it matters which day I do what for me anyway. As my son said, you run 13 miles every weekend, what’s the big deal for this race?
In some ways he is right. I know I can easily (relative term here) run 13.1 miles on a whim but I am really hoping to give my best possible effort tomorrow, even with the wind blowing. Did I mention I hate wind?
Monday – 6.2 Miles (treadmill)
I didn’t want to stop but forced myself to do so. I warmed up for a mile and then kept things between 6.8 – 7.5.
You know, I sometimes question how it could be that I share these early morning treadmill photos with the world. I spend so much money on makeup and my hair yet this is what I post? I need to rethink this.
Tuesday – Pure Barre Mile High DVD & 4 Miles
I switched today’s planned elliptical workout with tomorrow’s run due to the weather. It was looking like the only morning that wouldn’t be raining so I wanted to get in an outdoor run before the weekend.
Wednesday – 35 minutes elliptical
I monitored the weather while pedaling.
Thursday – 4 miles
It wasn’t raining this morning so I was able to get outside for a quick run. It was chilly so I wore a long sleeve top over my tank for the first long sleeve run of the season. I actually felt a little warm which led me to the conclusion that if the temperature is the same tomorrow and not raining, short sleeves it is for sure.
I kept the pace easy aside from some strides thrown in but easy in the cool weather is faster than my easy in the warm weather, not to mention, my legs were full of energy with less miles and less Pure Barre this week.
Friday – Rest!
