workouts & half marathon choices

This week was an interesting one workout-wise. It started out great and then went downhill Tuesday night with a quick-moving not-so-nice summer virus thing.

While my mileage was certainly down this week, I did spend some time thinking about registering for my next half marathon and I am pretty close to making a decision.

It’s so not easy for me since I plan around my cycle but what can you do, right? I gotta do what works best for me and running at that time of the month just doesn’t work so that’s that.

I am choosing between the Suffolk County Half Marathon September 13th and the Great South Bay Half Marathon October 3rd.

If I have my choice, I would prefer the Great South Bay Half since it is in October which means the weather should be a little closer to cool with less humidity, and really, the race is sponsored by Entenmann’s which means lots of goodies at the finish line.

I have a feeling the September date may work better for me but as soon as I know and decide, you will be the first people I inform 🙂

weekly workout recap

Monday  – 6 Miles & Pure Barre Mile High DVD

Easy run while chatting on the phone with my friend Heather then home for Pure Barre. Usually I run after Pure Barre but switched it around today so that I could run before it got any hotter outside.

Tuesday- 9 Miles

I woke up to a downpour outside my window which luckily stopped in time for my run. I thought I was about to encounter speed work on the treadmill which would have been fine but I was happy to get outside.

I sort of followed this speed workout which involves .50 speed intervals for a few miles and a full mile speed at the end before cooling down.

Wednesday – Sick Day

Funny how I felt great for Tuesday morning’s run and then went downhill Tuesday night with a virus!

Thursday – 35 Minutes on Elliptical

I felt so much better but knew running was probably too much bouncing around for my insides so easy pedaling on the elliptical while watching the news was perfect.

Friday – 5 Easy Miles & Pure Barre Studio Series DVD

I felt well enough to attempt an easy run. I kept the pace super easy (around 10:15) and definitely felt normal, in fact my legs felt nice and rested.

Saturday – 10 Miles

My parents were on my case to NOT run long this weekend and to give myself a break but come on, what runner who feels fine is going to stay home?!

My father followed up with me bright and early by text.

Sunday – I think a few morning miles

I woke up Tues morning thinking I’d have to go to the gym but luckily it stopped just in time for me too! Glad the virus was quick and you’re feeling well again. I agree with your parents though and 10 was probably a nice “lower mileage” long run for you this week 🙂

DO you mean the Hamptons one at the end of September? I have heard great things about it but haven’t run it – it’s a bit of a hike for the day but I should look into it at some point!
