If you are wondering when my next race is, you aren’t alone. It’s almost July which means I need to start narrowing down the fall half marathons on my list and register for something.
The Rock N Roll Brooklyn Half is October 10th. The Islanders just announced they will open their season against the Chicago Blackhawks Friday night, October 9th — in Brooklyn.
Going to an Islanders game in Brooklyn, the night before needing to be in another part of Brooklyn for a half marathon in the early morning is not exactly ideal when you think about all of that schlepping back and forth not to mention being up late only to turn around for an early morning ride back to the borough and of course, I am thinking about the prerace dinner options.
There’s the Suffolk County Half Marathon September 13th. I should start considering this race or even give thought to the Hershey Park Half Marathon October 18th (if it isn’t sold out yet) but along with all of these considerations comes attempting to track my menstrual cycle which loves to wreak havoc on my race plans.
Ugh. So to answer your question, I haven’t a clue when my next race is!
I discussed this confusion with my dad yesterday who wondered why I bother to stress over this and pay to run races at all since it seems to him that I run at least a half marathon distance every weekend on my own.
Maybe is right.
Pure Barre Studio Series DVD & 4.25 miles- You know you are due for an easy/recovery run day when 10:00 min/miles feel really really nice.
My shadow always makes me appear so tall. I am not tall, only about 5′ 4″.
It was sunny and warm for 7:00 am but I felt great and unaffected by the temperature which must mean I am adjusting to summer running.
This turned into a fun speed workout:
1 mile warm up
Miles 2-7 -> alternating .50 easy/ .50 hard
Mile 8 -> medium effort/cool down
While my overall average pace was 8:28, I didn’t keep track of where I was at during the speed intervals.
All I focused on was picking up the pace for half a mile and then going easy for half a mile. It was a great way to push myself and definitely worked my muscles real good, not to mention left me all sweaty when I was finished.
5 Miles & Pure Barre Mile High DVD– I woke up with a ton of energy which meant I ran faster than I normally plan for on Wednesday mornings (average pace 8:45).
I mentioned last week that I needed to order some new Pure Barre DVD’s. I still haven’t done it but I seriously need to because now another one of my DVD’s is scratched and skipping sections! I don’t know how this happened but it’s not okay.
9 Miles – I set out to run my 8 mile workout but during my last mile (cool down mile) my friend called so I kept running until we got off the phone which brought me to 9 miles.
Pure Barre Studio Series DVD & 30 Minutes Elliptical
I mixed up my brief time in the gym like this:
- 15 minutes on the elliptical
- Off for free weights (biceps, triceps)
- 15 minutes back on the elliptical
I set the elliptical machine to the random ramp setting and play around with the incline so that I go from 1-20 in terms of resistance.
15 Miles in the early morning plus Yoga for hips, hamstrings, and back in the afternoon.
My run was terrific but it definitely took a lot out of me (I did my favorite running workout again until mile 11 and then ran easy until mile 15) which I didn’t realize until after enjoying my favorite post-run breakfast.
I took a short nap later in the day followed by the one online yoga routine I enjoy which Michele recommended a while back which left me feeling rested and ready to go out for dinner (La Piazza for local readers).
I haven’t decided yet! After publishing this post, I am going back to bed for a bit. It’s dark and gloomy for a summer Sunday morning but I think the sun should be coming out a little later this morning.
Perhaps a short recovery run? We shall see 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your weekend![bctt tweet=”Workout Recap & Upcoming Races #running #purebarre #halfmarathon #races”]
