Thinking Out Loud – May 28, 2015

Thinking-Out-Loud

Did you know that yesterday was National Sunscreen Day? It’s a great time to take a look at your sunscreen products to ensure you are using the best possible for your skin.

I put together a really informative sunscreen post last year that is worth sharing again because the information still holds and the products I recommended are still the same ones that I am using for myself and my son.

Click here or the above image for the facts about sunscreen post.

Did you know that so many of the sunblocking products available on store shelves are actually harmful? Yeah. They contain lots of ingredients that some studies suggest are actually worse for you than the actual sun.

Wondering which are the worst sunscreens on the market? Click here. And then go clean out your cabinet of the stuff.

In other news…

Lots of fruit in the house. My son requested strawberries and grapes.

And I am still all about watermelon.

The best supermarket thing to happen to me this week was finding fresh blueberries at an acceptable price.

I am currently trying to ration them to myself but we both know that isn’t really working.

And the best peanut butter thing to happen to me this week?

#peanutbutterloversunite

I won the Peanut Butter & Co. giveaway on instagram! Do you see my oats in a jar in their photo?! I won, I won!

Can’t wait to see my prize 🙂

Talk to me about cold brew coffee. Do you make it? Buy it? Drink it?

I read this post the other day all about the benefits of the cold brew coffee and I am intrigued.

I had one of my favorite salads yesterday for lunch and no, I wasn’t at The Cheesecake Factory for a change.

I went a majority of my life without eating beets. I hated them by sight which translated into hating their taste until one day I decided I should like them so I did.

I am due for a dessert trip to The Cheesecake Factory by the way. Especially since my birthday (June 5th) is next Friday!

I haven’t planned out which cakes and desserts I want just yet but the Factory Mud Pie is usually on my birthday list.

Factory Mud Pie from one of last year’s birthday dinners. Yum!

I have a few birthday desserts in mind but none of them involve me baking a darn thing.

I will bake your birthday cake and my dad’s chocolate fudge cookie dough birthday layer cake but I will not slave away in the kitchen on my special day.

I prefer to treat myself or be treated to something sweet without lifting a finger 🙂

A girl deserves a break every now and again, you know?

Be sure to check out what everyone else is thinking about today!

Which sunscreen do you use? Are you remembering to wear it while you run?!

If I was baking your birthday cake, what would you request?

Cold Brew Coffee? Should I be drinking it?

Thanks for sharing those articles about sunscreen! I am good about wearing it on my Saturday runs but I should probably start wearing it during the week too since the sun is up like all the time now. I would go for some kind of vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, but now you also have me in the mood for peanut butter so that might need to be incorporated as well!

I am ALL ABOUT peanut butter and fruit these days. It is like strawberries, watermelon, apples and blueberries are always chasing my Smooth Operator mixed into Greek yogurt 🙂 Perks of warmer weather…but that sunscreen post is super helpful. I actually had a spot of sun poisoning last week because mine wasn’t sticking when I was running!

You have officially won the best prize ever… nut butter is always the answer for everything : ) haha. I wear sunscreen constantly, especially on my face year round. I put it on every morning before I leave for the day. I love that you plan out what desserts you want for your birthday… I do the same thing. Which is great, because I have a birthday week and therefore I deserve a different treat for 7 days in a row haha. My favorite favorite favorite birthday treat is a momofuku milk bar birthday cake – funfetti for the win (I swear I’m 27…) Hope you have a great Thursday!!

So funny about liking beets – I’m pretty sure the exact same thing happened to me. I remember hating them my whole life and then all of a sudden I just decided I liked them. Weird. I’m pretty sure it was because I ate them with goat cheese….game changer.

I try to wear facial lotion that has spf in it, but work indoors – as such, I don’t typically wear sunscreen, unless I’m at a beach or something. And THAT hasn’t happened in too long. 🙂

OH I have been having a MAJOR love of peanut butter lately, and specifically, been drooling for a Peanut Butter Cheesecake (or anything similar) – So, I’d ask for that for a bday “cake”.
Or, I’d “settle” for peanut butter pie, or peanut butter truffles……ermergerdpeanutbutter

I like my coffee like I like my men – HOT! 🙂 (I am married, and my hubby indeed qualifies!)

I love my peanut butter so I am right there with you on the peanut butter pie! This cold brew coffee I think is just the method that it brews and then you can warm it. It looks interesting in terms of the benefits. I know I have seen it but never tried it.

I have to use a stick sunscreen on my face so that it doesn’t run into my eyes when I sweat. I MAJORLY sweat. A lot. And I also use it on my tattoos so the colours don’t fade. I really wish we had a cheesecake factory up here! I’m so jealous.

Oh the Friendly’s crowd pleaser is definitely 12 scoops and 6 toppings! So good, we should meet up there and bring Michele since she used to work at Friendlys back in high school! lol
