I Am Running The Long Island Half & Workout Recap

Guess what?! Guess what?! I registered to run the Long Island Half Marathon next Sunday!

You know it wasn’t an easy registration decision for me to make due to the possible conflict of my cycle.

This may be too much information but you and I are friends and I am pretty open to discussing these things…so….I waited until the last minute to register for the race just so I could determine the midpoint of my cycle. Once I pinned that day down, I calculated things out and came to the conclusion that a conflict between half marathon morning and aunt flow were really slim.

The human body certainly isn’t a machine, but, even with some room for error, I am staying confident that the race should not be affected.

I am so excited!

On to my workouts from the week…

weekly workout recap

*Monday*

Pure Barre Mile High DVD & Gym Day – I woke up to windswept rain which meant running outside after Pure Barre was just not going to happen.

40 Minutes of cardio in the gym went down like this:

–> 10 minute warm up on the elliptical

–> 30 minutes easy-paced run on the treadmill (3.20 miles)

I can’t remember the last time I took one of these silly treadmill selfies because I can’t remember the last time I ran inside on the treadmill.

I should really make an effort to run inside on occasion just so I don’t forget that the treadmill really isn’t so bad.

*Tuesday*

8 Miles – Average pace @ 8:30. Great run, no complaints here!

8 miles

*Wednesday*

5 Easy Miles & Pure Barre Studio Series DVD – I ran first and then came home for Pure Barre which is the opposite of how I normally do things but it worked well for today.

And when I say easy miles, I mean that my average pace was 10:00 the entire time.

When I am running easy, I don’t try to move faster than I am naturally going, I let my pace fall where it feels right.

*Thursday*

8 Miles- My plan was to run these miles at a decently quick pace but then my phone rang.

Catching up with my friend became more important than my pace so I took the call and chatted for the duration of the run which meant I was probably 30 seconds slower on average just so I could keep up my end of the conversation comfortably.

*Friday*

Pure Barre Mile High DVD & 4.45 Miles – Is it weird that I didn’t keep going to make it 4.50 miles?

I didn’t feel like it. I reached my front door and decided that the extra 0.5 was not necessary.

*Saturday*

6 Miles – Yes, Saturday is normally my long run day but I had some things to do so I decided to run a little shorter today and a little longer on Sunday.

Just because I only ran 6 miles does not mean it wasn’t a fabulous run — because it was!

2 mile warm up followed by 4 miles @ 7:32

*Sunday*

Thinking about a 10 mile easy run before switching over to the taper mindset of rest more, run less!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂

Have fun running the Long Island half. I hope weather is nice next weekend! On another note can we talk about how awesome your arms look! Whatever you’re doing for them I need to do. Amazing!

Will be training right through next Saturday’s 5k, which I’ll use as my speed workout – first of the season, probably the only mid-afternoon (3:30pm) race of the year.

Salmon in creamy curry sauce at a friend’s house.

Haven’t been cross-training much, but been thinking about the rowing machine alot 🙂

Taper, taper, taper. Someone once said, “If you think you need to be doing more, do a little less.”

Excited for you that you will be able to run the LI half! Maybe one year I will be able to run it. Lately my favorite cross training exercise has been Body Pump classes- I definitely go through phases with it and lately I am addicted!
