We are back from Disney World and I feel like I need a vacation.
The worst part about taking a few days away is the coming home to do laundry (like the minute I walk through the door, without stopping for the bathroom), the food shopping, cleaning (how is the house messy if we were away?) and adjusting back to the regular routine although there will be no school this week so regular routine isn’t really going to happen.
The one thing I will say is that my workout routine is not something that takes a readjustment; it’s so much a part of me that I look forward to my normal morning run and crave Pure Barre as much as I do my first brewed cup of coffee in the morning along side my prerun oatmeal, banana and peanut butter.
I will recap our trip a bit more this week but for now, let’s look at my workouts.
Pure Barre DVD
The best part of being a morning person is not struggling to get ready for an early morning flight. In fact, I was even able to squeeze in a Pure Barre session in the living room before getting my son up and out the door.
I wouldn’t exactly call walking around Disney World a rest day though; being on your feet for a good 12 hours and walking miles upon miles (Disney is twice the size of Manhattan) in between sitting on buses, monorails, boats and rides is rather tiring!
3 Mile Treadmill Run
The gym at our hotel is really nice.
It’s not just a couple of old treadmills which you typically find in a hotel gym either.
It’s fully stocked with plenty of new machines and weights/weight machines with room to do planks if you want to but I was on vacation and the one thing I will not do on a vacation is a plank.
Instead I ran 3 miles and called it a day.
It’s hard to run out of my element, I will admit that. Adjusting to a new treadmill and running when eating on a different schedule tricks my system yet somehow I still ran kinda fast – 3 miles in 25 minutes. Not bad.
The view from the gym is really nice too.
30 Minutes Elliptical
My feet were done from all of the walking around and the thought of running on a treadmill made me cringe.
I had a few minutes though in the morning so I opted for the elliptical machine.
It was a harder elliptical machine (or maybe just not what I am used to or maybe I was tired) than the one I use regularly in my gym which made me think about how difficult it is for me to share elliptical workout routines since each machine and settings are so different.
Pure Barre DVD and 6 Easy Miles
We came home Thursday night so I woke up Friday morning excited to get back to normal. We weren’t gone long but I love my usual mornings so much that it felt good to wake up at home.
I skipped the ending ab section of Pure Barre (I felt like the “warm-up” was enough for the core work this time) and headed out for my usual 6 mile loop.
You would think my legs would have felt super fresh and ready to run after not running as much over the last few days.
Not the case. I thought I would be really fast but I wasn’t so I just went with it and enjoyed the warmish December air.
It was nice to have the opportunity to run long on an early Saturday morning at the end of December with temperatures probably in the 40’s which felt more like 60’s.
I hope it stays this way all winter!
Pure Barre DVD & Maybe a few easy miles
I am leaning towards one of the shorter Pure Barre routines (the Mile High series) and possibly a few miles. I haven’t decided yet but it’s so warm here that passing up a chance to run outside at the end of December so comfortably seems silly.
Is the weather warm by you for this time of year?
Best thing you ate so far this weekend/on Christmas?
Do you struggle adjusting to different treadmills/elliptical machines/working out when on vacation?
