I love the opportunity for randomness…
As a peanut butter lover, it is my duty to make sure you are aware of the recent nut butter recall.
I was slightly nervous when I saw Trader Joe’s involved since I recently bought a jar but it seems that only their almond butters made the recalled list.
If I want to be honest with you, years ago when I was a Reduced Fat Skippy Crunchy Peanut Butter lover and it was recalled in a major way, I continued to eat my way through my jar supply because I would rather have risked contamination than go a day without my favorite peanut butter.
Please keep in mind that I may not be the best role model.
So sometimes I go to bed planning ahead for a rest day in the morning only to wake up, see the sun, feel refreshed, go against the plan and head outside.
Big mistake people. Big mistake.
Once I started running yesterday I just knew I should have stayed home. My legs were tired and needed a break yet I was stubborn and decided they would be fine.
It’s a cumulative effect for me because I can run and run and run….until I suddenly slow down without a pain or soreness anywhere just knowing I need a complete break.
Rest is in order for this morning.
Only I won’t rest, I will clean.
Only I can’t be trusted near any cleaner that involves bleach.
My beautiful Pottery Barn shower curtain (don’t you love the ruffles?!) is now tye-dye because I am a fool and let the bleach cleaner dribble three large splotches on the curtain.
I was then left with no choice but to splatter-paint bleach all over the entire thing.
I will admit that I like it. Of course I do, I love tye-dye anything.
I also love The Cheesecake Factory where I had lunch yesterday with two friends.
Of course we needed extra onion rings.
Those are Michelle’s nails by the way, not mine. Mine are pink, not French.
Always a tough decision.
Anyway, getting back to The Cheesecake Factory, I just need to vent for a moment once again about the Skinnylicious menu.
While I understand why they invented such a menu and I think it’s all sorts of great when restaurants try to accommodate people with healthier options, the truth is, making it separate and labeling it as “Lighter” or “Skinny” tends to put some people off.
Since kids speak their minds, speak the truth and often say what most adults think but don’t verbalize, we can listen to my son.
He wants nothing to do with this Skinnylicious menu and pushes it away from him immediately.
Why? Because, as he says without even reading it, “it is diet food and not good.”
I have tried to explain to him that it’s the same burger just with a salad option. It’s the same appetizers just served in smaller portions.
People feel that “Skinnylicious” or “Lighter side” means a sacrifice on flavor and satisfaction which isn’t always the case.
It would almost be better if restaurants started offering more vegetable options as standard parts to their entrees as well as replace the standard French fries with a salad so that the fries become the substitution on request rather than the other way around.
Click here for my last rant about Skinnylicious menus which offers some tips on how to order “skinny” from any menu.
And while we are on the random theme today, I participated in a super random spinning session with sandals on my feet in, of all places, Bloomingdales.
Totally normal, I know.
There was an AIDS fundraiser taking place yesterday afternoon while I was in the store picking up new moisturizer so I was told that if I hopped on the spin bike for three minutes, I would earn a $10 Bloomingdales Gift Card just like that.
I tried to ask for a six-minute ride in order to receive $20 but it didn’t work in my favor.
My plan is to use the gift card at their Forty Carrots restaurant next week when my son has days off between camp ending and school starting.
We love to eat at Forty Carrots and ten dollars towards a meal is always welcome.
Be sure to check out what everyone else is thinking about today!

Do you have any of the recalled nut butters in your pantry?
How often do you skip your rest-day plan?
Do you ruin household items with bleach too?
I totally agree with you about the “lighter/skinny” labelling–for some it makes them feel self righteous, for others it almost is shaming. Like if I, being as petite as I am, were to order something off of that menu, people would probably make certain assumptions about me. But boys/”non dieters” aren’t going to want to order off of it for the same reason as your son–either as a mark of pride or becasue they think that it won’t apply to them.

Confession: I don’t even own a bottle of bleach. Is that a thing? Are you supposed to? Because it smells all sorts of bad and gives me headaches. Oh! And did you know that we don’t even have a Cheesecake Factory up here, apparently? All we have is Cheesecake Cafe, which I guess isn’t the same thing? Heard that on the radio the other day and thought of you…

Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. thinking out loud #92 .
I don’t know what Cheesecake Café is so maybe it isn’t part of Cheesecake Factory? I don’t know but I feel bad that you don’t have one…As for bleach, I have a few cleaners which contain bleach which I will never buy again!

Haha love the bike pictures! P.S. I think your shower curtain looks great! 🙂
Aw thank you. Lol it was such a disaster when I saw big white spots on the curtain that I figured adding more couldn’t do any more harm. I actually like it.

I am shocked to find them recalled! I wonder how salmonella gets in something like NUTS….

I saw that picture of you on instagram yesterday and thought, how fun. I agree with the skinny crap. Although I hate the word or term skinny when used to he something people desire to be. I completely see where your boy was turned away from it. What boy wants to eat skinny food?

I feel like no one wants to eat “skinny” food simply because the word makes it sound boring, tasteless and unsatisfying which is so not the case most of the time!

Spin biking in Bloomingdale?! Awesome! 😀

I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw “SkinnyLicious” on their menu. Sigh lol! I still love the Cheesecake Factory though;)

Love The Cheesecake Factory. It’s my fave. But I stick to my favorite salad over ordering from the Skinny Menu.

The hardest part I find about eating out is not really knowing what in the food. I try to stick with simple stuff for that reason. But sometimes even vegetables are coated in oil or butter! I hate being the person to make a million specific requests, so I like going to specific restaurants where I know exactly what to expect and how to order. But then there are the special occasions where i go out to eat and order whatever I want without paying attention to what’s in the food:)

I can’t stand when they coat vegetables in crazy amounts of oil and butter but sometimes, it’s the best option on a menu.
Your lunch looks delicious. I don’t normally go to Cheesecake Factory because I seem to always go toward the heavy pasta dishes. I will have to look for this dish next time I go.
Definitely order the BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad (if you are vegetarian, just order it without the chicken and ask for extra of everything else in it’s place). I order the dressing on the side.
Totally agree with the skinny menu thing…even just making it separate seems totally weird. I love that you spun in the middle of Bloomingdales. I would have wanted to go for an hour and get the $$ from that!!

That’s equal to $200 an hour. That’s almost pro cyclist status. You were pretty much a pro cyclist for 3 minutes of your life 😉

Great point about the skinny menus and kids…I never thought about this. I bet lots of people including guys and even women on a date who don’t want to seem hyper-diet or high maintenance do the same thing. I always feel so badly when I make a million special requests so fries/junk etc being the substitute option would be great!
I totally would do the bike thing in any outfit plus leave and then come back to get another card (:
I should have gone back, you are right!
Regardless of their “skinny” menu……… I LOVE CHEESECAKE FACTORY because they clearly know that I LOVE TO EAT HUGE PORTIONS! lol!

It really is off putting when you see that on a menu and then actually want to order something from it because the actual dish sounds good! We don’t really have that here but I DO love the Cheesecaske factory when I went there because I’m a pig and ate it all.
I also swear there is crack in the brown bread they give.

Arman @ thebigmansworld recently posted…[Paleo] No Bake SunButter Bars
I know, the brown bread is really good especially when dipped in the salad dressing.
Totally normal and precisely why I love you 😉 FTR I proposed going to the cheesecake factory on our way home from New Hampshire with my camp friends last weekend and everyone shot me down. Apparently my friends are anti cheesecake wahhhhh. Though I do have to admit that the whole calorie and light menu thing kind of takes away from the fun of cheesecake!

I wonder why your friends shot down Cheesecake Factory? It’s so good and something for everyone. Hmm. I would have ignored them and gone my own way. lol
You can never have enough onion rings, especially since you’re putting them on a beautiful salad. I made my own fried leeks once and used them as a salad topper. They were delicious.
I’m right there with you on the skinnylicious crap stuff. How about we serve food in appropriate proportions and offer a side of veggies or salad? Then if you want to super size your meal or swap in fries or onion rings, you can. I’m sure the reason they separate out and label the skinnyilicious stuff is because they certain can’t call the other part of their menu Too much Food, Packing on the Pounds, or Heart Attack on the Plate. Those wouldn’t go over so well. 😉
Those onion rings seriously make the salad. Any salad. I love using them even at home when I make salads just to finish off the flavors and textures. Delicious.
hi, you look cute with spin bike
Love photo yah
Spinning with sandals? Haha LOL. Im a huge Spin fan, and got a bike to workout at home too. Anyway, nice pics Meredith:)
Ha thanks, it was a great time in the middle of Bloomingdales!
