If you are wondering where yesterday’s post was since you didn’t receive it in your inbox, I can’t explain what happened because technology doesn’t feel the need to explain itself when it screws up.
Click here for the link to yesterday’s post which talked about how to start running. I apologize on behalf of modern technology.
So I had every intention of devoting this week’s What I Ate Wednesday fun to the specific changes I have made in my diet over the last couple of months and why those foods have been associated with making a positive affect on my menstrual cycle.
However, as terrific as I have felt now for two cycles, I have decided to hold off on discussion, give it one more month to make sure the changes I have made are legit and sticking to then get into the details.
Let’s talk about blueberries instead.
I am starting to wonder if I will turn into a blueberry like Violet from Willy Wonka from the amount of blueberries I have been consuming. Violet you are turning violet, Violet!
I have so many recipes to play with using fresh blueberries but when it comes down to it, I am just so simple and stick to the basics.
Straight from the container, on a plate with sliced banana and strawberries topped with peanut butter, or my favorite, on a Mighty Maple spoon.
Of course an abundance of blueberries means plenty of berries to cook into my oatmeal. I actually ran out of old-fashioned oats last week and decided to replenish my supply with Trader Joe’s gluten-free bag.
I never had a gluten allergy or a wheat allergy that I have known about but over the last long while I have noticed that fresh cooked old-fashioned oats have been totally irritating the inside of my mouth.
Cold oats and/or the steel-cut oats I buy, no. Hot old-fashioned rolled oats, yes.
So I bought this gluten-free bag and haven’t had an issue since. Hmm, who knows what my deal is here.
The other day I went to mix the greek yogurt into my cold oatmeal when I noticed I bought the wrong variety.
I only ever buy plain greek yogurt since I prefer to add the sweetness from real fruit rather than the added sugar varieties.
Sweetened yogurt is candy to someone who normally eats the plain.
So lunch since my birthday has been all sorts of fun.
My friend Danielle who lives in Florida emailed me a Red Mango gift card for my birthday and told me she wanted me to fill up my cup as much as I wanted without worrying about the price.
So fill up I have been doing for lunch quite often this week. Thank you Danielle, once again. Thank you.
Modern technology may annoy me but for sending birthday gifts it can be really thoughtful and amazing.
Last night I had dinner at a terrific restaurant in Manhattan.
Have you been to Rosa Mexicano? I didn’t get any pictures from dinner but they make amazing guacamole table-side.
On the walk to the restaurant though, I couldn’t resist stopping at my most favorite vegetarian restaurant.
I figured if I asked for the smallest salad container, a little bit of their roasted broccoli couldn’t possibly fill me too much.
It’s not exactly normal to have zero will power around roasted broccoli but then in this same thought, I guess there are worse things to find irresistible.
And really, you should never drink on an empty stomach (I had sangria with dinner) or arrive to a restaurant starving anyway.
Last summer I had spotted a Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit truck on it’s way to their Hamptons store location. I had never tried this dairy free, lactose free, gluten free, fat free (everything free) delicacy and finally yesterday I found myself in front of their Manhattan store.
Of course I went there for dessert.
It looks like a frozen yogurt shop but it’s not yogurt – it’s frozen fruit in soft serve form. It’s made with only water, fruit and a touch of cane sugar and is free of the top eight major allergens.
I had a cup of strawberry and dark chocolate with dark chocolate chips and some whipped cream on top to feel special.
Dark chocolate isn’t a fruit but the website says it is made from the seeds of a cacao fruit. Interesting.
I am always amused when I dine out late into the night and still wake up early super hungry.
Time for me to devour some blueberries with my breakfast. Be sure to check out what everyone else is eating today!
*************
Do random foods you didn’t think you were allergic to irritate your mouth? Cinnamon does this to me as well.
What foods are you unable to resist?
Do you wake up starving even after dining out late into the evening?
Thats weird about the oatmeal? I know cinnamon is used in some of the plumping lip glosses so maybe there’s a connection? I know it took me FOREVER to find out that pineapple was irritating my mouth. As long as I don’t eat too much (or eat it with tons of acidic fruit) I’m good though. I wake up hungry every day no matter what. I guess it makes it easier to get out of bed right? 🙂

You may be right about the cinnamon – never thought of that! All I know is that I avoid adding it to anything at the moment. Pineapple totally irritates my mouth as well. I stopped buying it because I can only eat small amounts and when I have cut one up at home, I can’t limit myself too well lol.
Okay, so much to comment on, but firstly, your last question….YES!!!!!! It doesnt matter how much I eat, even how late, I still wake up and want to eat all the food….usually sugar…..ooops! That fruit place sounds amazing, as does the vegetarian restaurant. I am going to add those to my nerdy list 😛
You should buy stock in red mango….do they know you in there yet? 🙂

Hahah – I rarely go to the same Red Mango location too many times in a row – rotate a bunch of them depending upon where I am at the moment…They do know me for the most part though and even last summer I did a sponsored post where I reviewed their new smoothie line. I felt so special to be contacted for that!
I want absolutely every single thing that you posted. This is like my perfect day of food. Holy bajeezus.

I cannot resist peaches. Georgia girl, through and through. Also, jelly beans. And M&Ms.
And I didn’t like the TJ’s oats the first few times that I had them, then I learned how to cook them perfectly and now they are my fave.

Perfectly cooked oats is just a bowl sent from heaven. I feel that people who claim they don’t like oatmeal most likely haven’t cooked them correctly.
I can’t resist any type of roasted veggies. I don’t discriminate when it comes to roasted veggies. I make huge batches of them twice a week to keep in the fridge and every time I open the fridge door I can’t help myself from picking at them. I could easily polish off one of those huge batches in one sitting, but the fear of what will happen to my poor stomach later on is what stops me.
And YES, I wake up starving every morning regardless of the fact that I eat a pretty late dinner and snack before bed. I’m talking really starving with my tummy grumbling and a feeling of being light headed.
Sounds exactly like me. I can’t resist roasted vegetable and had to stop roasting too many in advance because I would totally eat them all and then have to deal with the stomach ache and bloating. I always wake up starving too, even with the late dinner and or late snack. I never understood people who never eat breakfast.
Wow that frozen fruit place sounds so great! I need to get one around here!

GUAC! <3 I love guac like no tomorrow. I will cry the day Chipotle raises their Guac prices. I've never been to that place (not in Canada boooo) but I'll have to check it out when I visit 🙂

It was soooo good last night. I went too long in life not eating avocado and guacamole. Totally top of my list now.
Same!! I used to avoid guac (me being a picky eater) and ever since I had some I was like “WHY HAVE I BEEN DENYING MYSELF THIS ALL MY LIFE?!” it was a game-changer haha

the guac at rosa mexicano is UNREAL. I can practically taste it in my mouth right now. Ugh but I don’t have any in front of me. Thanks lady now I have a guac craving…

I thought of you last night and figured you had frequented Rosa Mexicano….And that Maoz. It’s a good thing I don’t live in Union Square. I would go broke from eating out every day for every meal.
I LOVE THAT FROYO PLACE! Granted I’ve been once but I’m thinking it’s a necessity this weekend.

I really liked it! I will definitely go back next time I am in Union Square which hopefully is like next week.
Technology can be so frustrating. WordPress decided not to show any of my pictures last WIAW! mmmmmm to the blueberry…I could eat them by the bushel!
I’m pretty sure I developed a random allergy to pineapple out of the blue. Grew up loving it, and then one day… BOOM! Itchfest in my mouth. I’m starting to think the same thing about a few other fruits as well, but those are more random rashes than they are mouth itches. And are you serioussssss about the allergy-free froyo?!!? I would fly to NYC just to go there… and see you, of course 😉

With you on the pineapple. I can do small doses but stopped buying it because if I cut it up, I eat way too much of it and it totally burns and irritates my tongue, mouth and lips….And yes, you could definitely eat at Chloe’s. There has to be allergy friendly places by you, we have so many like this!
Any restaurant that makes fresh guac at your table is a winner to me! Cantina Laredo also does that and I love it!!

I’m with you on the plain yogurt and adding fruit to get sweetness. Stonyfield is my favorite brand as of lately. Thanks for reminding me how desperately I need to get froyo in my life.

Megan @ The Skinny-Life recently posted…WIAW…Blending
Stonyfield is totally the best for greek yogurt, in my opinion at least. I try to buy as many as I can when it is on sale.
That frozen fruit place sounds amazing. I must check it out next time I am in NYC 🙂
Definitely recommend trying it next time you are in the city. It was really good. Hard to believe it wasn’t yogurt and was just made of fruit.
