Panera Bread For Lunch And Friday Links Of Interest

So yesterday after chatting with you all about DJ, her book and being married to former hockey player Pavel Bure, I read an article about Hilary Duff and former hockey player Mike Comrie getting divorced.

Maybe Hilary should read DJ’s book on marriage? Just a thought.

I can’t believe it is Friday already. I am not complaining, just wondering where the time goes. So many minutes seem to take forever yet suddenly all those dragging moments fly right past and you wonder where the time went.

This week I read a bunch of interesting and informative articles and feel the need to share them with you especially since they relate to some things I wanted to talk about anyway.

I love when the blogs I follow do link posts. With so many topics covered, discussed and plastered all over the internet, it is virtually impossible to see everything that is out there each day on your own.

While I can’t guarantee to share links of interest every week, I can certainly share them when I see them.

For instance, you know how I love my Hungry Girl newsletters delivered to my inbox each day, right?

Well, the newsletter from the other day let me know that Panera Bread’s regular menu now includes two of their Secret Menu items on a regular basis.

It just so happens that I had a lunch meeting at Panera Bread a few days ago where I did in fact order the above former Secret Menu salad, The Power Chicken Hummus Bowl. Instead of the chicken, I always ask for extra of everything else plus avocado. If they charge you the same price with or without the chicken, you deserve to get extra toppings.

The apple was an add-on because for some reason they don’t include the bread, apple or chip option on this salad bowl.

And because I am greedy, after they called my name I ever-so-sweetly asked for an extra side of tomatoes just to bulk up the bowl a bit more.

I highly recommend this salad. I love it. It is basically the same as the Mediteranean Veggie Sandwich just in salad form, minus the feta cheese. In fact, now that I think about it, next time I may ask for the feta.

While on the topic of salads, I came across this Shape Magazine article talking about 12 salads that are worse than a Big Mac. Hmm. I wonder though if any of the salads can last on a shelf as long as a McDonald’s burger though?

Informative article yet really, any salad on the list can be adjusted and healthified- leave off the salad bowl shells, order dressing on the side, opt for grilled chicken over fried….you know, the usual culprits we have talked about in the past.

Staying on the topic of food (we love to talk food) do you ever utilize Whole Foods’ website for their recipes?

Whole Foods Market Recipes

Kid-Friendly Recipes

It’s a great source for meal inspiration and they also have an app you can download to your phone giving you access to all of their recipes and meal ideas on-the-go. I have had this app for years and it’s actually one of the few apps I use!

On the running front, the Runner’s World website has a ton of  interesting reads worth checking out:

Decoding Blood Test Results – How the miles you run can affect your lab work/medical testing.

Boost You Burn – 10 different ways to incorporate more movement into your day to boost your caloric burn.

Miles And Meals – How Marathon Training does not always mean automatic weight loss for runners. Sometimes, it is the opposite.

And probably my most favorite link from this week:

35 Foods From Your Childhood Which Are Now Extinct

I don’t want to give away the whole list but boy how I LOVED Sprinkle Spangles cereal and Rice Krispies Treats Cereal.

In fact, all I used to eat were the rice krispies treats clusters and I left the rest of the krispies in the box.

And the “other” crispy? Why did they take these m&m’s away?

I think they now fill the blue bag with the pretzel m&m’s. I never learned to love those. They were just OK.

All this treat talk is reminding me that I may need a cupcake this weekend. It’s been a while so I think it’s time.

And sushi. Time for sushi.

I used to watch Lizzy Maguire when I was way too old for their target demographic but I loved it! What’s on the secret menu by you? I didn’t know they had a different version for you guys.

Until a month or so ago I didn’t know Panera had a secret menu! I will have to travel to Union Square (the closest Panera I know of) and check it out! It was sort of sad to hear about Hilary Duff’s impending divorce, but I guess that’s her business.

Yes, I was sad too when I heard about their divorce, especially since I am a huge hockey fan. I loved seeing her at Islander games…If I am in Union Square, you can find me at Max Brenner. I think there is a Maoz in Union Square too, right? I haven’t been to that location yet.

My favorite meal from Panera was their fall Turkey Harvest Wheatberry salad! Oh my it was delicious!

I have ordered from the secret menu, but whatever I ordered was just okay, nothing special.

On my phone I definitely use facebook, instagram, and snapchat the most (I’ve sent about 15,000 snapchats, just sayin’)

This weekend’s running plans – run, run, and run til I can’t run anymore…regardless of the snow here in Ann Arbor, Michigan!

Also, I love that buzzfeed article as well! I spend wayy too much time on buzzfeed and came across this GEM that had me laughing obnoxiously/awkwardly in class –

    Have an awesome weekend!
