In honor of the marathon, every year I share the post my dad wrote about his memories from running his first New York City Marathon in 1986. Here’s the link if you would like to read it. I remember being there on 1st Avenue, eating a chocolate donut. 🙂
You know I’ve toyed with the New York City Marathon briefly in the past, even entering the lottery for 2016. Luckily, I didn’t get in because the true desire to train for a marathon was and still is missing from my heart. Maybe one day though!
As far as my workouts from the week, I am so happy we changed the clocks last night. It’s been enough of the early morning darkness for me. The sun rising after 7:00 am just doesn’t work in my world! It was really cutting into my run time (since I won’t run in the dark) so I will be happy to get those minutes back this week.
Monday – 6 Miles (treadmill!)
There was a huge rain/wind storm overnight which was still going on in the morning. I headed inside to the treadmill for a really good run!
Mile 1: warm up following this easy run on the treadmill plan
Miles 2-5 : ranging speeds between 7-0 – 77
Mile 6: cool down between 6.8 – 7.1
Tuesday – 5 Miles/10 Min Pure Barre
This was a fun 5 mile run which was mostly easy but engaging too. I did repeat rounds of 5 minutes easy + 5 X 30 seconds hard/30 seconds easy. It turned into a little over 4 rounds and then I just picked up the pace to hit 5 miles.
I came home and combined two, 5 minute Pure Barre On Demand workouts (arms & seat).
Um, this particular 5 minute arm workout is absolutely KILLER!
It’s all body weight and burns like no other arm workout I have ever done! These 5 minutes are insane, in a good way.
Wednesday – Gym Day
I didn’t have a ton of time but I made today’s time window work for me! 30 minutes of major effort on the elliptical machine followed by a good 5 sets alternating jump jacks and squats. I’m not sure which was harder – the elliptical or those 5 sets!
When you really push your speed on the elliptical, especially when working on those inclines, you can for sure achieve an awesome cross-training workout. I have always been a fan of the elliptical!
Thursday – 5.25 Miles/20 Min Pure Barre
I’m ready to change the clocks. While I am flexible in the morning with my run time, waiting for the sun to rise this week has been super annoying. I combined two 10 minute Pure Barre workouts (arms & abs/thighs & seat) before the sun was up enough for me to run outdoors.
Friday – 5.33 Miles/10 Min Pure Barre
Once again, I chose a 10 minute Pure Barre workout (seat & abs) before it was light enough for me to run outdoors. 50 minutes of easy running became 5.33 miles and time for me to go home!
Saturday – 10 Miles
I think I ran 10 miles. I say I think because my phone shut off after the 9 mile mark. My phone was causing me all sorts of problems in terms of my music which kept pausing throughout my entire run. It was probably better off when it shut itself down because I was about to throw the darn phone on the ground! Ugh, I was so frustrated!
My run was fine though. First 5 miles were easy and then I picked up my pace for 4 miles plus a one mile cool down. Again, I think I cooled down for a mile to make 10 miles. Not really sure.
Sunday – Pure Barre/Easy Run
I decided that I want to run a few miles today in addition to a Pure Barre workout. As you know, I don’t usually run on Sunday but lately I feel so rushed during the week that I want to be able to run today and not feel that weekday pressure.
Good luck to everyone running the marathon today!weekly workout recap! #running #purebarre #tcsnycmarathon @pure_barre #workouts #fitfluential Click To Tweet
