How I Pick New Makeup + Favorites

Want to know my trick for deciding if I like new makeup before I buy it?

I rarely buy new makeup the first time I experience it. I’ll have the new makeup put on me and then I walk around the rest of the day to make my decision. I want to see how it feels on my skin and how the makeup looks in different lights.

I also take ridiculous close up pictures of myself while looking in the mirror to take note of the new products and how they look.

Recently I was running low on my favorite Dior Star Foundation. Jill, my Dior makeup girl (local readers, she’s at Bloomingdales,Walt Whitman Mall) had me try on the Dreamskin Perfect Skin for a change.

“The luxurious texture perfectly fuses with the skin to unify the complexion and reduce the appearance of redness, shine and pores. Skin is fresh, matte and luminous.”

Dior Dreamskin

Dreamskin Perfect Skin has an SPF 50 and is super lightweight. I really didn’t think I would love it but it went on so light yet flawless! Pretty sure I’m in love.

I also discovered Dior’s new Double Rouge lipsticks! It’s the coolest thing ever. This Double Rouge lipstick (which I went back to buy immediately) goes on with an ombre effect which makes your lips appear perfectly lined without liner!

Dior Double Rouge

What it is: Inspired by professional makeup artistry, Double Rouge combines two makeup trends: matte and metal. In a single application, it produces an ombré effect with a highly pigmented matte contour and a light-catching metal heart.

What it does: Two shades work in harmony upon application, creating a sophisticated finish and an optical illusion of volume.

And let’s talk new favorite clothes quickly….

Bailey 44!

Bailey 44 is one of my most favorite brands. While it may seem a little pricey, their styles and quality make it worth it. I learned a long time ago to never pass up something from Bailey 44 if I find a shirt or dress that I love!

I was super excited to find this Georgina Dress actually on sale. The original plan was to wear it the other day to the luncheon but it was still a little too warm outside. I know I will get plenty of use out of this classic dress though!

Oh, and there was no way I was passing up this Wish Away Off-The-Shoulder Sweater. I intend to make a few outfits with this shirt, wearing it with pants or skirts. When something is so versatile, we can justify price. 🙂

And, well, I need to go back for this Snow Queen Sweatshirt. I’m a sucker for this style right now!

I’m super happy it’s the weekend, it’s been a long week. Have a good one! (And an easy fast to my Jewish reader friends who won’t be eating for 24 hours!)

How do you normally select your makeup? Do you try it on first to decide or do you buy it and hope for the best?

Are you a lipstick or lip gloss person?

I love shopping at Sephora so I can return stuff if I don’t like it 🙂 But in all honesty, I don’t change my makeup up very often. I’ve been using the same Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey since high school and I’m 35!

3 things: A TB test for work (blech), board games & scary movies with the munchkins, and a 16 miler tomorrow. Oh, and a bonus! I’m going to the Faith Hill & Tim McGraw concert this weekend with the hubs and this was one of our very first dates almost exactly 19 years ago. Crazy!

I was going to say that I remember Black Honey from when I was in high school! How funny! I do remember it being a great color. Have a great time at the concert!

This makes me want to go clothes shopping. It feels like forever since I really splurged on new clothes. Mostly I spend my money on Ave’s outfits. How did that happen?!

I painted her toenails this weekend. Cutest thing ever!!
