That’s right, I left my running shoes home.
I am not one of those people who pack their running shoes for every vacation. Sometimes I do, and sometimes, like for this week’s quick trip out east to the wineries and then Foxwoods, I left my running shoes home.
It’s completely not necessary to run or workout on the same schedule every single week, especially while away on vacation. Why not give yourself a real break from routine, you know?
That’s exactly what I did. Even if it was only two days off, it was definitely worth it.
Since I knew I would be away (3 days/2 nights) and taking off from my usual workout routine, I also chose to skip most of my other Pure Barre workouts before and after the trip. It was the perfect time to add in some extra rest on the strength training front. Sometimes I do not realize how fatiguing Pure Barre is to my muscles so this was a good opportunity for a step back week.
Monday – 7 Miles (treadmill!!)
I decided on Sunday that today would be a treadmill day as I needed a break from summer running. Even though the weather was gorgeous and humidity felt low when I stepped outside, I still walked over to my gym.
Somewhere during my warm up mile I decided on making this run a mix of speed and hills. It was a really great run! Sure, I felt the inclines – but in a good, working way. And when I dropped back down, I picked up my pace with little effort.
Tuesday – 4 Miles & 20 Min Elliptical
We weren’t leaving for our trip until after 9:00 am so I still had time for a workout.
I got caught in a somewhat heavy rain during mile 3 of my run (the weather people said it would be a spotty shower!) so I headed inside to the gym.
I ran half a mile on the treadmill to finish up my third mile then switched to the elliptical machine. After 20 minutes, I jumped back on the treadmill to run one fast mile and then called it a day. Not a bad workout even if the rain interfered!
Wednesday – Away!
Thursday – Away!
Friday – 7 Miles
It was nice to get back outside for a run.
Saturday 12 Miles
This was a pretty uneventful long run. I ran fairly easy but picked up my pace for the last part of each mile. Sometimes the last .25 and sometimes the last .50 of the mile.
Sunday – Back to Pure Barre on Demand
I figure I will select a Pure Barre workout from Pure Barre on Demand for the first time in a week.
In case you missed it, I shared a running round-up earlier this week of workouts and running-related posts from the last six months- link here!left my running shoes home while away #workoutrecap #running #purebarre #vacation #wineries #foxwoods Click To Tweet
Do you always pack your running shoes when you go away or do you use trips as an opportunity for a break?
What’s new? What have I missed?
Any plans for the long holiday weekend?
