When You’ve Got It, You’ve Got It

I didn’t plan on running today. I met my good friend at Lifetime this morning planning to take a kickboxing class (aka cross training!). I figured if I was early I would warm up with a light elliptical workout or even walk on the treadmill.

When I got to the gym early, I felt like running. I didn’t plan it but I felt it. I had the running itch. So, I decided I would do an easy slow jog before the class. I started out at 10 min mile, nice, easy, slow. But I had it today. Yes friends, I had it. I felt great and my slow jog turned into a quick 3 miles where I had to keep myself from running the entire time at 8 min miles (and I even had to stop myself from staying longer 7:30 min miles). I didn’t even break a sweat.

What a great feeling!

One needs to appreciate these unscheduled and random awesome runs. Soak up the feeling and remember it on the days that a scheduled run is met by the heavy legs, nothing to give, is it time to stop, sweating and messing up my hair, can’t even keep a 10 min mile pace symptoms of  a bad run.

I swear there is no rhyme or reason for when you will have a great run or to a bad run. No way to predict when either will occur.

Sometimes, you just have it. And today,  I had it.

Do you ever end up running even when you don’t plan on it? How often do you experience bad runs? Do they discourage you from running or motivate you for your next run?
